It seems to be an easy hike. You can take your own decision by checking the route. As I will be going there first time too. 

DURATION
About 4.5 h walking + breaks. Medium paced while enjoying and appreciating the nature and the view. 

MEETING POINT: Saturday , 7:00 a.m. Hauptbahnhof München, Yormas near Pl. 26 (please be on time!) 

7:10 we will buy the Bayern tickets.

WAY THERE
Departure: 7:32 from Munich Hbf platform 29 RB5411 reaching Garmisch-Patenkirchen at 8:54 am. At 9:15 we will take the BZB1002 (Zugspitzbahn) (included in Bayern ticket till Grainau) and get down at Grainau by 9:30.

WAY BACK
Depending on the time we require to complete, we can accordingly select the return connection. 

WHAT TO BRING:
- Money for the ticket
- Firm footware : Hiking boots. 
- suitable clothing (12-20 deg showing sunny as of now)
- Food and drinks (the place to eat could be closed so please get your own food and drinks)
- Sunscreen 

- Good mood
