Birnhorn, the highest peak (pyramid like) of the Leoganger Steinberge, is one of the 30 most prominent peaks of the Alps. Its 1400m tall southeast wall is one of the highest of the east Alps, comparable to Watzmann Ostwand.

The hike will be postponed if the weather is not good.

Route: After the easy but long ascent to Passauer Hütte, we wil hike to Hochzint with its panoramic view. Then we will continue to Melckerloch, a unique rock window or cave. The path continues on the top of the impressive Birnhorn Südostwand (scrambling UIAA I, partially exposed). From the peak the descent to Kuchelnieder (and the optional Kuchelhorn) includes a via ferrata (B, 200m, about 70m gain). If you still have excess energy at the end of the hike, we will pass by the famous Zahme/Weisse/Wilde Gams via ferratas near Weißbach on the way home, and the Leoganger via ferratas near Passauer Hütte.

Transport: We will go by car as the starting point is not easily accessible by public transport. Due to Kontaktbeschränkung only two persons per seat row are allowed in each car. The driver(s) may require passengers to pay in advance. Please read the car instructions carefully. If the hike or lift is cancelled or postponed, the drivers must reimburse the prepaid payments. Otherwise a passenger dropping out before departure must only be reimbursed if the driver can find a replacement. Car drivers must contact me first if they drop out.

Joining: Click on carpool. If a car has free seats, read the instructions and possibly join the car. Otherwise add yourself to the waiting list and regularly check for free seats. You are not automatically assigned to a car.
