The tour goes through several beautiful alpine lakes and two peaks. These include the Engeratsgundsee, the Laufbichlsee and the Koblatsee.

At the foot of the Großer Daumen is the Schwarzenberghütte, which is often used as a place to stay so that you can start the next morning before sunrise. From the hut you must first follow the signs towards Engeratsgundsee. The route takes about 45 minutes, becomes increasingly steep towards the end and ends right at the lake. Once at the Engeratsgundsee, you can take a short break with a view of the lake before you turn left and reach a second lake, Laufbichlsee. The path to the Großer Daumen is signposted. First it leads through meadow-like terrain and later pulls up through rocks to a ledge where there is a fork in the road. There you go up on the left path until you come to a plateau, where you only have to follow a short path to the summit! You keep going till you see another fork and you can reach shortly Kleiner Daumen. You then go back down towards the lake crossing the so-called Türle. From there you have a great view of the lake as well as of the surrounding mountains like the Hochvogel. The route to the Türle takes about 15-20 minutes and has only a few meters in altitude. Some portions between the Daumen and the descent further to the Engeratsgundsee requires surefootedness and is steep in places. After a break at the lake you go back to starting point.
