Description

For the first time I am organising a hike, I've chosen something easy and would like to keep it private.

We meet at 9:00am at München Hbf, platform 26. From there we take the RE 4875 direct to Mittenwald in 1 h 40 min so we arrive shortly before 11am.

We are buying the Werdenfelser ticket which works much like the Bayern Ticket but is cheaper.

From Mittenwald we'll take the route through the Geisterklamm gorge. After that we will try the route up to Grünkopf, which is easy and with only 750 m of altitude gain. If, however, the people would be tired after the gorge or not very sure about going up until the top of Grünkopf, there is a "plan B" where we skip the mountain and go directly to the lakes.

In the lakes we can pause to eat, chill and relax and maybe even take a bath. After that, the route back to Mittenwald is easy.

The whole route will offer oportunities for beautiful pictures. It takes some 5 hours so we should be back in Mittenwald at 16h, which leaves us enough room for long pauses.

Mittenwald is also a picturesque village so we can spend some time there after the hike and have some dinner or beers.

The weather services give differing predictions for saturday, the 1st of August at Mittenwald. In general, fair weather and low probabilities of rain are forecast. Nevertheless, if the situation should evolve into less favourable conditions, the event would be cancelled.

Good to know

The route is not technical so no equipment is needed. Some good hiking shoes are recommended.

Things to bring in your backpack:

- Some food for the pauses during the hike, one 1-litre bottle of water and maybe some other drinks.

- Sunscreen.

- A passport or ID because the route crosses the international border with Austria for a little bit. Most probably there will be no border controls, but just in case.

- Some cash money for the tickets and for whatever you want to eat or drink in Mittenwald.

- [Optional] For those who want to take a bath in the lakes: swimming clothes and a towel.

- [Optional] A spare T-shirt and socks.

- [Optional] It's never a bad idea to always carry in your backpack a small first-aid kit.

Werdenfelser Ticket costs 22€ + 7€ for each extra person, to a maximum of 5. If we are multiples of 5, the round trip in the train will cost exactly 10€/person.

Welcome to Hiking Buddies :-) You have to increase the max participation limit, so that others could join.

What's the point of creating this event on a public forum if it is marked as "private"? Whatever that is supposed to mean :)

Happy to be kicked out of this 'private' event. Not sure if this is in line with the spirit of Hiking Buddies community though!

I was the first to sign in and discovered by accedent that I was kicked out after canceling my original plans. so it ruined my saturday already. he didn't notify me. and now i read this silly excuse for posting a "private" hike (whatever that means) in a public platform and talking about ratings and points. people will judge your hikes from your beaviour that they read in those comments and not from recommendations from people you already now. so yes, glad to be kicked out from that hike.

Hi dear people! As explained in the very first line of text, I want to do this hike with people I already know, and the reason is simple: it's the first hike I organise. After this, if it goes well, I expect to organise more and those will be open to everyone. I hope it is not that unreasonable or difficult to understand ;) Despite this clear notice from the beginning, some people chose to ignore it and apply for the hike anyway, which honestly doesn't say much in their favour, as it means they don't care for reading or respecting rules. Nevertheless -and contrary to what some of the comments affirm- I took my time to write a carefully worded explanation for every person I had to remove from the hike, which I did no later that wednesday, precisely so that people would know in advance.
