The event has been postponed to Sep 5th Saturday due to bad weather- strong wind gusts, rain, and potential lightning strike. Thanks for your understanding. But the weather on Sep 5th looks really promising, and the days before should be sunny and dry.

The Schöttelkarspitze (2050m) is a sensational panoramic mountain in the Soierngruppe in the Karwendel. The ascent from Krün over the Seinskopf is long and requires some easy climbing (scrambling) and surefootedness near the summit. The descent is over the Soiernhaus and idyllic Soiernsee, which offers great views of the mighty Feldernkopf and the Soiernspitze. 

This is a medium+ hike, and NOT suitable for beginners or people that have fear of heights. There is some scrambling (using both hands and feet) involved and

Good to know

We take the RE 4871 train (in the direction of Mittenwald) at 7:13 from Munich to Klais, arriving at 8:39. Then we take bus 9608 to at 8:43 to Krün. This is the start and end point of our hike.

There is chance for getting refreshments at Soiernhaus on the way down.  

We aim to catch the 17:58 bus + train (RE4876)  back to Munich Hbf, but there is a bus/train running every hour in case we don;t make it. 

Things to bring:

  • Hiking boots
  • Enough food and drink (the hut is during the descent)
  • Swimsuit (if you want to swim a few minutes in Soiernsee)
  • Sunscreen
  • Cash for train and hut

Hi all, note that the event has been postponed due to bad weather. There is light rain and strong gusts of wind, which makes the scrambling part of the hike quite dangerous. The proposed new date is Sep 4th Saturday. The weather looks more promising on that day and let's hope it will be sunny and dry. Thanks.
