The God of weather looks favourable to us so let´s go for another fantastic tour before the snow comes, crossing from the north side to the south one of the most beautiful mountains we can reach from Munich: Thaneller. It is known also as the Lechtaler Pyramid for its characteristic shape and as well as the Guardian for its position closing the Plansee. Thaneller is a free-standing beautifully shaped pyramid at the north-east border of the Lechtal Alps with magnificent 360 ° view. The southern slopes of the mountain are soft and offer an easy route to the summit. But when you look at Thaneller from the north you see another face of the mountain. The north side is a steep face which is quite an eye catcher especially seen from Plansee. We start in Heiterwang towards Karlift. Behind the valley station immediately begins a track that you walk a few meters. After about 50 meters right turn a track in the meadow. A few minutes further up, the signs begin. Above the ski slope, the path then leads along the first moderately steep, then increasingly steep Kärlesbach. If you leave the green zone of the path, you can clearly see the richly structured steep flank of the Thaneller. If you climb up so high, you can hardly imagine that this steep wall a way to go. At the bottom of the Thanellerkar you come to a large rock. Here, the paths cross over to the Thaneller and the path from Rauchälple to Jochplatz. The kart gets steeper at the top, but the way up is pretty neat. The further route through the wall is well marked and the path alternates between rocky areas (again and again short places scrambling I) and sandy to gravelly areas of the road also debris belts. Because of its location, Thaneller is a magnificent view point and very popular. The views to the east and west are dominated by the rocky mountains of the Lechtal Alps and Wettersteingebirge. To the north the mountains become more gentle and get lower and lower. This creates a beautiful frame for the fjord-like Plansee, a lake which is quite nearby and makes the panorama from Thaneller very special. In contrast to the other directions, the view to the south provides a glimpse of the glaciated peaks of the alpine central-ridge with Wildspitze being the highest mountain visible. After enjoying the panorama we head down in the easy sunny side of Thaneller direction Berwang where we have a pit stop at restaurant and we eat and drink something together considering we don´t have huts on the way. Finally we walk down the valley till we reach Bichlbach station to go back to Munich.
