Hi everyone,

I am looking for a couple of buddies to join me on the 1st of November (holiday) for a hike to the famous Rotwand

I wanted to take the most popular route way up (from Alte Wurzhütte) and then descend down the alm and then forest road down a gentle slope to Geitau (mainly to avoid the bus connections which are getting more sparse at the time of the year)

Anyway, the hike is not technically difficult, but it is pretty long - considering that the days are getting shorter now I would be expecting some brisk walking (especially on the descent) - no need for running though - we should still have enough time.

Nevertheless, if you don't have any hiking experience and proper boots, I will see you other time ;-) 

There is a hut at the start (no stopping there), Rotwandhaus close to the top where we can stop for a warm drink and the Postgasthof Rote Wand in Geitau which we have tested already at another occasion - we can drop there for food/drink as well

Nevertheless, I would ask you all to take something to eat for the entire day as well as a bottle of water each and ideally a warm drink as well - that will allow us to decide on the day where and when we want to take a break

Good to know

Equipment required: Hiking boots
Equipment recommended: Hiking poles (on a long and gentle ascend and descend these may be useful)

Please bring food and drink for the day. The weather forecast is good for the moment, with a very low chance of rain towards late evening - I will keep an eye on it and update you immediately prior to the trip. Please note it's not summer anymore ;-) Rain or wind-stopper-style jacket is recommended

We will be taking BOB+bus on the way there and BOB on the way back - we meet on the day at 7:45 on Main Station

Although I would not be afraid to descend the last couple of kilometres in the darkness (the descent is very gentle), I am planning on getting to Geitau before dusk. Nevertheless, I will be taking some light and I do recommend the same to at least some of you
