Description

Timing: We will meet at 6:20 at the Munich Central Station for buying the Werdenfelsticket for two people, which cost 29 €. Please bring the 14,50 € for your share in cash. The train will leave at 6:32 on track 27 and will arrive at 8:23 in Mittenwald. The hike is about 1,500 metres of gain. My pace would be around 500m/h. So we need around 3 to 4 hours to the top depending on the conditions. I would not make longer breaks on the ascent, just some for drinking. At the summit, we will make a longer break (at least 30 min). For the descent i calculate with 2,5 to 3 hours. So in total we will need at least 7 hours. So will probably catch the train at 16:32 or 17:32 and arrive in Munich at 18:23/19:23. But there are later trains as well, so that should not be a problem.

Hike: The hike is marked as medium difficult, but i have never done this hike before. You should definitely be experienced in alpine hiking. Please read some descriptions or watch youtube videos before joining, to get an impression of the difficulty. We will hike to the westliche Karwendelspitze via the Karwendelsteig, which is really step. The last bit from the cable car station to the top is partly secured with wire cables and you will need your hands at some point.

Weather: The forecast says 9 hours of sun and -2 °C on the top. The ascent will be the most of the time in the shadow. So bring warm clothes and gloves.

Good to know

NOTE: I am not a professional guide. Each participant is responsible for her-/himself and has to be prepared, bring suitable equipment (if s/he thinks it is necessary to bring) and has to check if she/he meets the physical requirements. Hiking includes a certain risk and everybody is responsible for his/her own safety. It is highly recommended having some kind of insurance in case of incident.

COVID-19 Blurb: DO NOT join if you have any symptoms or feel you may have been in contact with a positive recently. Be responsible. Act respectfully.

Really important: You will defintely need spikes. I was in this area on wednesday and from 1200 metres there will be snow and ice on the way. Also bring a head light with you, because it could be dark on the way down. It is also helpful to bring an emergency bivouac. If you don't have one, i can also bring two.

Things to bring:

  1. Hiking Boots
  2. Face mask
  3. Spikes
  4. bivouac
  5. enough food and drinking
  6. basic first aid kit
  7. headlight
  8. gloves
  9. warm clothes
  10. wolly hat
