Description

Let’s go to the beautiful Lake Constance by bike! This route crosses the Hochtannbergpass (1578 m) to get from Tyrol into Vorarlberg, before coasting gently downhill for 70 km down to Lake Constance (Bodensee).

Good fitness and experience is required, especially as there is no public transport anywhere on the route, so other than turning back to Reutte or trying to hitchhike with a bike, there’s no real alternative route.

Weather

The current forecast is threatening rain, and the ride will be confirmed/cancelled by Friday at 20:00 based on the forecast.

Note for anyone thinking of repeating this route: almost every Postbus on the Tyrolean side has bike racks on the back, and there is the R1 Fahrradbus on the Vorarlberg side (Thu-Sun), so it is not quite as cut off from public transport as I had come to believe.
