Description

Now that summer has arrived, let’s go for a hike up to Hochschrutte followed by a swim in Heiterwanger See. The route is T4, with some grade I scrambling. We will be going reasonably quickly, but not trail running

Weather

It should remain dry all day, but given the conditions over the last week, it is very possible that we will see drizzle at some possible towards the end of the walk. By then we will be low down, so it will not pose any risk to us, but it is definitely worth bringing full waterproofs in case.

Kit list

This is what I am bringing; your kit list should be similar.

  • hiking boots/trail shoes
  • head torch
  • helmet (recommended, as the descent can involve loose scree)
  • first aid kit, survival bag/emergency bivvy
  • snacks
  • lunch (there is no hut anywhere en route)
  • cash (for the train ticket, and for a possible restaurant stop while we wait for the train)
  • more snacks
  • FFP2 mask
  • water (2 ℓ)
  • Alpenverein membership, or similar insurance
  • walking poles (optional)
  • waterproofs (jacket, trousers, bag cover/liner)
