Hi Buddies,
I plan to go to Coburger Hütte this Friday, and hopefully enjoy the magnificent views of Zugspitze from Seebensee and the beautiful scenery around Drachensee.
The weather forecast shows some moments with sun and some occasional showers, so we should expect variable weather and temperatures somewhere below 20 degrees (who knows, we will be able to tell somehow better once there :D).
We will split a Werdenfels ticket (22€ first person + 8€ each additional person).
The 6:32 train from Munich Hbf should allow us to reach Ehrwald Zugspitzebahn Bahnhof at 8:29.
Once there we have two options (we can decide jointly with those who join):
Option 1: Start and finish point at Ehrwald Almbahn.
Option 2: Start and finish point at Ehrwald Zugspitzbahn Bahnhof. This option adds about 7km and 150hm walking through Eherwald (Ehrwald Banhof from/to Almbahn). It would be like this other route, although hiking opposite direction).
Either way, from Almbahn on we have a good two/two and a half up and up hours (more or less depending on the pace of the group and how cooperative are our heartbeat and our legs that day). A wonderful upwards trail awaits, with views to always imposing Zugspitze and neighboring mountains. My plan is to take the shorter but steeper path on the way up until Seebensee.
Seebensee gives a bit of a break, walking around it, on flat terrain, to recover some energy, but the game is not over yet, the last uphill will be in front of us, and it will make us sweat, before we can visualize Drachensee and reach Coburger Hütte (highest point on our hike, 1927m).
There we can relax, enjoy some drinks and food at the Hütte (should be open). Maybe, if you are brave enough you might want to feel water temperature on your skin.
On the way back, we will undo the same path from Drachensee to Seebensee. However, from Seebensee back to Almbahn, we will take a longer but easier route, yet sufficiently downhill demanding, composed of gentle down trails and forest road at times. We will meet the Tirolerhaus on our way, I believe it is open, in case we need a pit-stop.
If we decide to take a bus back from Almbahn to Bahnhof these are the options (13:10, 14:15, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15...) and the trains back to Munich (13:31, 15:31, 16:31, 17:31...).
Depending on group pace and also how respectful the weather is with us, I believe the 16:31 train is a reasonable assumption, which would have us back in Munich Hbf at 18:26. However, do not quote me on that one, we might be much faster/slower than expected, or decide to spend more or less relaxing time at the hütte or on the way, and then we will go for earlier/later trains.
