Description

Group is full now.

Route in brief:

Garmisch - Knorrhütte - Zugspitze - Gatterl - Ehrwald

We will start our journey from Garmisch and walk past the Partnachklamm (depending on time, if open, otherwise, we take the slightly steeper route next to the Klamm). The train departs from Munich Hbf at 6:32am from Gleis 27-36 and we reach Garmisch at 7:54am. We then walk to the Partnachklamm and reach by 9am. Entrance is €6.

This will be a long (~20km) scenic route where we walk several kilometers on asphalt. Since this Reintal route is mostly flat and easy, we will do it at a medium pace. It's 20 km tops, so let's try to go it in 5 hours. I may take my light running shoes for that part. The first day ends at Knorrhütte. Depending on how much energy we have, we may do an evening hike to the peak of Zugspitze and back in speedy mode (that will be 8 km total, up and down).

The next day, we depart early from the Knorrhütte and head to the Zugspitze peak. After the peak, we head to Ehrwald via G
atterl (we should target max 8 hours at normal pace for this), where we take the train from Ehrwald Zugspitzbahn Bahnhof back to Munich.
We will target the 19:30 train, but if we miss it, our last connection will be at 21:35.

I have a reservation in Knorrhütte for 5 people from Wednesday 14th July - Thursday 15th July. I am doing it during the week to avoid the long weekend queues.

If we are past 5 people, then you will also need to book your spot (Matratzenlager).

Note 1: I may need to postpone this event if we have bad weather. We are too early right now to foresee the weather.

Note 2: In order to avoid premature cancellations, I would ask for a €10 deposit which you will get back 1 day before the event start. This is what the hut charges me for no-shows.
Note 3: You will need to be physically fit for this long route (over 40km total), have endurance, be sure-footed, and be able to hike moderately fast as well.

Disclaimer: I am not a mountain guide. You are joining as buddies after assessing your own abilities.

PS: this trail is "hikable", ie no special via ferrata equipment is needed. Day 1 is a long easy trail (T2 till the Knorrhuette). Day 2: T3 from the Knorrhuette to the peak and back to Ehrwald. Near the peak, you have a metal grips (ladder) to hold to climb up.
