You must read the instructions carefully before joining!Tentative date, depending on the weather! Our goal is to get the best view of the starlit sky near Munich, combined with an easy afterwork hike, watching the sunset and Alpenglow at the peak. The sky will be very dark as it is nearly New Moon and moonset is at 21:53. Furthermore the date is close to the maximum of the Perseids shower. The star park at Winklmoosalm <a href="https://www.abenteuer-sterne.de/sternenpark-winklmoosalm/">https://www.abenteuer-sterne.de/sternenpark-winklmoosalm/</a>, currently the only one in the Alps, offers guaranteed very low light pollution which makes it possible to see the Milky Way and much more stars with the naked eye than in Munich. At the Steinplatte peak there is a viewing platform at the Triassic park <a href="https://www.triassicpark.at" style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">https://www.triassicpark.at</a>&nbsp;(free entry) and a small lake (swimming possible).Plan: We will meet at Winklmoosalm, hike to the Steinplatte, watch the sunset, and return to Winklmoosalm. There we will watch the stars, milky way and perseids. The hike will be cancelled if the weather forecast 24 hours before the event does not predict a clear sky. Transport: We will go by car as the starting point is not accessible by public transport. Due to Kontaktbeschränkung only two persons per seat row are recommended in each car.
 The toll fee to Winklmoosalm is 7€/car. The driver(s) may require passengers to pay in advance. Please read the car 
instructions carefully. If the hike or lift is cancelled or postponed, 
the drivers must reimburse the prepaid payments. Otherwise a passenger 
dropping out before departure must only be reimbursed if the driver can 
find a replacement. Car drivers must contact me first if they drop out.Joining: Click

Instructions

RED LIGHT POLICY: For our best viewing experience we will not allow any other than red light, which does not disturb human night vision. You must bring a headlamp or torch with red light. The red light must be activated directly, without cycling through other light modes.The car drivers are supposed to reject non-compliant passengers before they depart.Camera flash must be disabled. Do not even try to take pictures in the darkness with your smartphone, as this requires a professional camera with long exposure. Activate the blue light filter (night mode) of your smartphone, if it supports it.You agree to pay a penalty of 20€ (to the organizer) per incident of you switching on a non-red light or flash, which will be donated to the DAV. Our goal is to get the best view of the starlit sky near Munich, combined with an easy afterwork hike, watching the sunset and Alpenglow at the peak. The sky will be very dark as it is nearly New Moon and moonset is at 21:53. Furthermore the date is close to the maximum of the Perseids shower.

The star park at Winklmoosalm https://www.abenteuer-sterne.de/sternenpark-winklmoosalm/, currently the only one in the Alps, offers guaranteed very low light pollution which makes it possible to see the Milky Way and much more stars with the naked eye than in Munich. At the Steinplatte peak there is a viewing platform at the Triassic park https://www.triassicpark.at (free entry) and a small lake (swimming possible).

Plan: We will meet at Winklmoosalm, hike to the Steinplatte, watch the sunset, and return to Winklmoosalm. There we will watch the stars, milky way and perseids.

The hike will be cancelled if the weather forecast 24 hours before the event does not predict a clear sky.

Transport: We will go by car as the starting point is not accessible by public transport. Due to Kontaktbeschränkung only two persons per seat row are recommended in each car. The toll fee to Winklmoosalm is 7€/car. The driver(s) may require passengers to pay in advance. Please read the car instructions carefully. If the hike or lift is cancelled or postponed, the drivers must reimburse the prepaid payments. Sorry but how is it 13 euro per person?? 13x4 = 52 euros. ~220 km even with bad fuel economy won't come to more than 20 euros plus 7 euros for toll..

my current 12€ estimate is based on last years experience, massive fuel price increase (1,6/l expected for August) and the cars have to climb >400hm steeply

C'mon I've driven in the mountains and for 1100 km (Hintertux base is at 1500 m, three times and also Achenpass, so a good 4500 meters vertical over 3 days) the costs came up to only 86 euros! This year! Thats 18 euros if converted to 220 km and even with fuel price increase and a somewhat bigger car, it can't jump from 18 euros to 52 euros!!!

Tilman I agree with that, usually I'd be fine with the price too. But if one person comments on others charging too much for carpool then one can't do the same themselves (yes this has happened) I've rented and driven cars and I know it's not the easiest managing everything but still not fair having double standards As expected I've anyways been kicked out of the events - It wasn't nice of me to comment about the price here but the double standards get annoying. Anyways, peace and enjoy hiking under the stars

Maybe use a tool in the website that calculates automatically prices for carpool would be not a bad idea. This community shares and doenst want to make Money out of buddies. None of US organizers, especially those organizing since 5-6 years, ever asked for a single euro extra for the organization efforts.Never. So It would be nice that Also prices for carpool would be Fair.

I do understand Harshal, as Thomas criticized my price a couple of months ago as well. BUT IN GENERAL : That's a thing I will never understand in Hiking buddies. ACCEPT THE PRICE OR DON'T JOIN THE CAR. Nobody is forcing you to join. You are accepting to pay 5 € for a Döner or 600€ for a liitle room in a shared flat in Munich but you aren't willing to pay 13 Euros for a car ride which brings you directly to the starting point and back to town. Be happy that someone is driving you! Even if the driver makes 5€ plus - That's totally fine for me and I would still join. He can buy something to eat or drink.

Can we give Andreas Reingruber a medal for his wise words? As a driver, very often I got depleted after 2 hours of drive to a location, hike for 8 hours and then another 2 hours back to Munich. Very often, because we came back to Munich very late, I did the taxi driver and dropped each and every of my passengers safely in front of their doors, as a gesture of goodwill and friendship. They contributed just for the fuel. But there is much more behind a car ride: the more kms you drive, the higher your car insurance costs. Then the higher the likelihood of car damage due to higher usage or the sooner you need to make your car inspection. Then there are tyres being used up. None of these costs appear to surface in all the above discussions. Why are some of you (fortunately, just a handful!!) haggling on fuel prices?

Dear hikers, don’t take for granted what the organizer or a person who drives care about you. “There is much more behind a car ride.“ if we are a group of buddies, than it needs to be a both side contribution and respect. Otherwise it is just a transaction and don’t motivate a person to serve. It is not just about money it is more do you value and see what is behind. Adding amortization costs is normal. Be thankful.

Regarding the participant limit: several people have asked me to extend it. I have deliberately set a limit because 1) a larger group would no longer be managable, 2) there is not enough space on the peak and the viewing spot 3) we're passing horses and cattle in the darkness, which we should not disturb and which should not feel threatened, 4) based on experience many people will drop out in the week before the event. so please be patient and regularly check for free seats. PS: sorry, I'm mostly offline these days as I stay in the mountains.

we will watch the stars near the parking lot after the hike. You won't need to carry all your gear (e.g. tripod) or food to the peak, but can keep it in the car.
