16/07/2021 Update: Since the weather forecast has changed quite a bit now and there are now predictions of thunderstorms, I have decided to move the event to next week, hoping to have better weather 🌞 then. Schrecksee is best done with very good weather.

This is an easy social hike (T2). In total we will do approx 10km, so feel free to bring your picnic food and drinks. 

The weather has changed quite a bit since I set up the event. It went from no rain to light showers, so as of now, I will stick to the worst-case scenario that it will rain all day. 

Therefore, this is a social hike in rain 🌧️. You will need to be prepared for such an activity.

Hiking checklist:

  1. Personal items (house keys, wallet, ID, cash money, phone)

  2. Optional: Battery pack for the phone

  3. Water (2 L +), food and snacks

  4. Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat (euh, you may never know what's up with Zeus - God of the sky, clouds, rain and whatnot)

  5. Waterproof Hiking shoes, waterproof hiking clothes

  6. Waterproof gloves and facemask (both optional)

  7. Basic First aid: footcare (if needed).

  8. Hiking poles/sticks

  9. Hygiene: Taschentuch, Mouthcare

  10. Spikes - there may be snow/ice (highly recommended. Terrain may be slippery due to rain)

Legal disclaimer: This is not a guided tour. I merely organize the trip to the starting point with like-minded, qualified, properly equipped and reliable persons. Every participant must be able to navigate her/himself on the suggested route. If you join, you acknowledge that hiking is dangerous, you are fully responsible for yourself and that you have sufficient insurance (DAV, Bergrettung or similar).

Note: Please unjoin the event well in advance, if you cannot come. You cannot unjoin the event when it is starting in less than 12 hours. No-shows will be recorded in your profile.

Munich @5:52am from Hbf -> Sonthofen

Sonthofen @8:35am -> Hinterstein “Grüner Hut” - Bus49

Hinterstein, Rauchhornweg @9:15 - Schrecksee Start Punkt @9:23 - Bus 50 - separate tariff

Return to Munich either 20:40 or 21:40. See details below. 

Details:

Meeting start of Gleis 27-36 at 05:40am and we buy digital Bayern tickets based on # ppl.


In Sonthofen, we have 35 minutes till the next bus (Bus 49) at 8:35am towards Hinterstein, Grüner-Hut. In Sonthofen, we can have a breakfast break, grab coffee and Pretzel.

We then take the special bus 50 at 09:15am and reach at 9:23am at Auele (extra €4.60). This saves us 4km of walking uphill.

Return:

For the return, we have flexibility to either take that special Bus 50 back to Hinterstein (extra €4.60) or walk the 4km (ish) to Hinterstein.


Whatever the decision, we need to be in Hinterstein either before 17:40 (to be in Munich at 20:41) or before 18:40 (to be in Munich at 21:40)

Hello everyone, Good news: We have beautiful sunny weather tomorrow in the Schrecksee region (Bad Hindelang). As per the forecast, there will be some showers starting around 6pm but by this time, we will already be on the way back to Munich. Also, there are no reports or warnings of floods in the region, therefore, the hike takes place as planned. Please kindly be sure to unjoin well in advance if you cannot make it, to allow people on the waitlist to join. It is not possible to do so 12 hours before the start of the hike. I look forward to a merry crowd tomorrow!
