Hi all,
me and my friend are doing Watzmann traverse on the weekend and are looking for a company. We already booked 4 places at Watzmannhaus on 06.08.
Our plan is to hike on Friday, 06.08 from Wimbachbrücke to Watzmanhaus and stay there overnight. On Saturday, 07.08 traverse Watzmann and descend over Wiesbachgrieshütte back to Wimbachbrücke.
Our pace for ascend is appx. 450hm/h.
It would be best, if you can arrive to Wimbachbrücke on your own, because we will stay in Berchtesgarden for a couple more days after 07.08 and won't be able to give your a lift back to Munich. But if you figure out how to get back by public transport on 07.08 and just need a ride to Wimbachbrücke on 06.08 feel free to text me and we can arrage something.
The route is very well know and described, so I am not repeating it here. Here you can read the route description in German (https://www.alpenverein.de/bergsport/sicherheit/bergsteigen/sicher-auf-den-watzmann_aid_14003.html), here a short description in English from Amit (https://www.hiking-buddies.com/routes/routes_list/362/).
This is a diffical route, with exposed sections, climbing/scrambling sections in UIAA grade I-II and via ferrata sections up to grade B. It is not a continious via ferrata route.
You need to have a decent amount of alpine experience, no fear of heights and no vertigo.
As of now the weather forecast for Friday/Saturday looks acceptable.
Please bring your helmet and if necessary you via ferrata set.
