Hike Description

Situated on the ridge that separates the two beautiful valleys Habachtal and Hollersbachtal in the northern, Salzburgian portion of the Venediger group, Larmkogel, is a lovely 3000er peak (3017m) offering great views over the entire Grossvenediger group with its spectacular glaciers. For this reason we go for a two-day tour with an overnight stay in the Neue Fürther Hütte and a high transition from Hollersbachtal to Habactal via the Larmkogel. We start from Hollersbachtal, known also as the valley of the vultures, with its abundance of plants - a fabulous botanical excursion! We spend the night in the cozy neue Fürther Hütte above the Kratzenbergsee, an alpine lake (natural monument since 1974) at 2,167 m above seas level that reflects the 3,000 metre high peaks in its waters. It is around 24 hectares large and a maximum of 32 metres deep, making it the largest natural mountain lake in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Rocks and extensive screes line the shore. In the south you can find an exceptionally beautiful silting area with white cottongrass. The climb to the left of the goods cable car winds its way up to a large cairn, from where wonderful views of Weißenecktal valley with its meanders in the anterior and posterior moss open up. A perfect rest stop for observing ibex, chamois, bearded vultures and white-headed vultures. Even edelweiss can be found around here. On Sunday after a good breakfast we move towards the transition over the Larmkogelscharte and from there the last effort brings us to the top of Larmkogel! Our target is reached. The Larmkogel can be reached in approx. 2 ½ from the hut. We go down to the other side entering the Habachtal, the emerald valley since here many emeralds have been found in the past. We have a stop at Neue Thüringer Hütte and we keep going down the valley till we reach car.

There is a bus connecting the two valleys at the end of our route. But probably the best would be that one driver leave the car in Habachtal so that he can carry the other two drivers to Hollesbachtal and the drivers can come back and pick up people on the way home.

More info about weather conditions, state of the path towards Larmkogel I will give in next few days.

I wish you all a lovely Sunday! :)

Hi guys. So weather looks pretty Good and stable this weekend. Only on saturday there Is a small risk of rain in the Afternoon/evening, meanwhile Sunday should be Absolute dry. Both days should be pretty Warm and mostly sunny. So dress accordingly in layers given the fact we Will be anyway spending quite some time between 2200 m and 3000m in the two days.
