Hike Description
The Rofan mountains are made up of soft grassy groups on the west side mostly, but on the other side mountains suddenly have steeply sloping rock faces, long rock bands, wild mountain peaks and wide high valleys.
We can go head around as marked on the map to avoid the Dalfazer Kamm, or tackle it. If we tackle, we will go up a more direct way up to the hut first, and leave our bags there for the afternoon. Either way, in order to get up to Hochiss involves some scrambling
Towards Hochiss, southern side of the ridge and descend a few meters to then hike at the same height over a narrow, somewhat exposed path towards the Rotes Klamml. The name Rotes Klamml is derived from the red color of the rocks. The way to the Klamml was already strikingly red. Now it is time to climb the Rote Klamml, a short, about ten meter high chimney secured with a wire rope. After the Rote Klamml the path continues narrow and somewhat exposed at a relatively same height until we come to an intersection. Here the path branches off to the Hochiss summit, which we reach in a good five minutes, with the summit cross always in view. The last few meters are easy over rock until we are on the top of the highest Rofan mountain. No matter which way you get up here, the panorama is magnificent!! Whether across the Karwendel or to the nearby Rofan peaks Spieljoch, Seekarlspitze and Rofanspitze, to the Gschöllkopf or towards the main Alpine ridge including several famous 3000s in Austrian Alps. After enjoying all this beauty we go down to Erfurterhutte through a path that leads directly to a rock face, immediately before we pass two cave entrances. The path leads narrowly around the rock corner, followed shortly afterwards by a short, rope-insured climb over rock and slabs of rock. The short piece can also be climbed without the rope safety device.
The choice over Dalfazer includes a 60m waterfall and the Dalfazalm, that is about 500 meters above sea level on a panoramic terrace onto a view of Achensee.
The Rofan mountains are made up of soft grassy groups on the west side mostly, but on the other side mountains suddenly have steeply sloping rock faces, long rock bands, wild mountain peaks and wide high valleys, sitting afront the rocky mountain kingdom of Karwendel. What views!
Alpine pastures surround Erfurter Hütte that offers a sunny terrace overlooking the Achensee on one side and Dalfazer walls on the other one, which is where we spend the night
In the morning, we hike below the impressive Rosskopf that many climbers love till we reach the Grubascharte. Here again we go half left on an unmarked trail up to the west ridge, on which we finally go straight to the Rofanspitze (2259m).
From the summit you have an impressive panoramic view, for example to the neighboring peaks of Hochiss, Unnütze or Guffert or the distant peaks of Großglockner, Hochkönig or Zuckerhütl, Kaisergebirge and Zillertal, the Grubasee and the Zireinersee lake
