Easy / moderate hike. Osterhofen (Oberbay) (Start) - Wendelstein (Summit) - Bayrischzell (Finish)
We can take the train (RB55) from München Hbf - Platform 34 to Osterhofen (Oberbay). The train starts at 8:30. For the return journey, we can RB55 from Bayrischzell to München Hbf starting at 17:03 or 18:03 depending on how long we take to finish the hike.
Since I am a beginner myself, I would prefer to do this hike at a slow to medium pace.
There is a hut located at the summit, where we can stop for lunch.
The train starts at 8:30, so let's meet at 8:00 at München Hbf - Platform 34 to buy the Bayern tickets.
Things to bring:
- hiking boots
- Cash for the ticket
- Food/drinks for the way (at least 2L of water recommended)
- GPX viewer
- A good mood
Note that I am not an official tour guide and that you are responsible for your own safety. Please be prepared to navigate and complete the hike as if you are hiking on your own.

Important for anyone wanting to do this route in future: On our return journey to Bayrischzell, we couldn't follow the exact same route. We had to divert from "Wendelsteiner Almen" which added an additional 3 km to the route making it 15 km long. Still, it remained a really enjoyable and easy hike throughout.
