Description

No beginners

Ascent: The hike starts from the train station "Ehrwald Zugspitzbahn". You have to follow the trail "801" which goes to Wiener-Neustädter-Hütte. After crossing the ski slope, the terrain becomes steep an it goes through gravel. You have to very careful in this section as there are very small stones often on the track. After approximately two hours of hiking, you will reach the a point where the path from Eibsee converges. The views of Eibsee are breathtaking here. After this the trail becomes very narrow and often secured with the rope. A helmet is highly recommended in this part. Soon you will arrive at the hut Wiener-Neustädter-Hütte.

From the hut, you need 15 min to the via ferrata entry point. The via ferrata is grade A/B, and a helmet is mandatory for it. After 2-3 hours in the via ferrata, you will arrive at the summit.

Descent: We take the cable car down.

  • carry cash (cable car ticket is 32€)
Good to know
  1. Hiking shoes and via ferrata set
  2. Hiking poles (not mandatory, but it always better to have them).
  3. Enough water for the whole day.
  4. Snacks and or food.
  5. Proper clothes for hiking (it could be windy at the peak)
  6. A good mood
  7. 3G rule: either a) result of a professional rapid test not older than 48h (for PCR 72h) b) proof of 1st vaccination applied at least 21days before the hike c) proof of COVID recovery not older than 6 months
  8. Passport or ID (!) because we are passing the border

Legal disclaimer: This is not a guided tour. I merely organize the trip to the starting point with like-minded, qualified, properly equipped and reliable persons. Every participant must be able to navigate her/himself on the suggested route. If you join, you acknowledge that hiking is dangerous, you are fully responsible for yourself and that you have sufficient insurance (DAV, Bergrettung or similar).
