Description

What to expect

This will be a relaxed hike, meaning that the tempo will be not that fast. In addition, expect us to spend quite a bit of time at the lake (picture taking, Yoga, if you feel like it: even swimming!). Also I plan for lunch at Seebenalm (Hut next to lake - should be open - take some snacks along just in case!).

The duration of the hike will depend highly on what are the groups preferences.

The route has technical sections, so it will NOT fit BEGINNER hikers or people who are not comfortable with heights. If your HB profike doens't indicate previous hiking experience beyond T2, then on joining write me a message explaining your previous experience, otherwise I might remove you from the hike.

Good to know

TRAVELLING TO STARTING POINT:

Either via Car or train.

I will add my car to carpool - 3 pax can join. Departure 8:00 am should mean we can arrive at destination at 9:30 am. If you will drive, please add your car to carpool!

Travelling by train. Train is leaving at 07:32 am sharp from Munich Main. If you want to take train, check also on carpool page. Either add train trip like you would add a car, or join an existing group (sharing BayernTicket). I suggest you meet at 7:15 then. You will arrive about 9:24 Ehrwald City. This is 2.4 km away from staring point - either some friendly car drivers from the trip will shuttle you or ... we'll see :-)

Someone from my car will be in contact with you during arrival to coordinate.

Meeting Point in Austria: Parking Lot Ehrwalder Almbahn.

Address:  Dr. Ludwig Ganghoferstr 66, 6632 Ehrwald, Österreich

Exact meeting point: https://goo.gl/maps/3gSYU2T35kKgeBi8A (at electric car charing point)

DEPARTURE:

Latest about 5 pm from Ehrwald.

For my car, I plan an enroute dinner at beergarden (probably in Garmisch-Patenkirchen) if ma jority is OK with this in my car. Benefit: less traffic afterwards back to Munich + enjoyable dinner! :-)

Other traveling groups are flexible of course. Eitherway you can expect to be back in Munich by 8 pm (maybe 8:30 if dinning is included).

WHAT TO BRING ALONG:

I assume you are experienced with hikes and know what to take along.

IN CASE BAD WEATHER I'LL POSTPONE / CANCEL.

3-G RULE /COVID:

The hike is in Austria, that means ALL travelers need to show either a negative COVID test or proof of vaccination/past infection upon entry. (You might also want to bring an ID card or equivelant)

.

STANDARD DISCLAIMER:
Hiking can be dangerous - probably more dangerous than you sitting on your couch. I am not a mountain guide, and everybody joining this hike does this at his own risk.

Comments
Hi Heiko, I would like to join this hike, can you increase the participant count to 16? Then I can add my car. It's ok you can't if 16 participants are too much for you.

A few have asked me about the weather this Sunday - well - I don't know :-) I see there is likely rain in afternoon - I want to wait till tomorrow noon to get a more reliabe forecast. If weather turns likely bad by 2 pm or earlier then I will need to cancel / postpone (AGAIN! :-)) - for now let's keep fingers crossed!! Will write update tomorrow.

OK - based on latest weather forcast( morning excellent - starting at 1 pm might be slight shower / definitely rather cloudy): here my proposal: Hike will take place (unless forecast gets worse). Route will be adjusted as follows: we take cable car to Ehrwalder Alm up & down. This means we will arrive at Coburger Hütte (Drachensee) latest by 1 pm (probably by 12:30) for lunch & pictures with still good weather. Also on way back then we don't take the risk of slippery surfaces on the difficult section. The hike effectively is not a T4 anymore then, rather a T3 I assume. IMPORTANT: Everyone NEED TO TAKE FFP2 mask along for the cable car - you need to in addition to you vaccination / test proof. Cable car up & down is 18.50 EUR / pax. So please check if this is OK for you and cancel or stay in :-)

Weather forecast still looks quite fine for tomorrow - might be slight showers during noon time, but otherwise dry and mix of sun and couds till about 5 pm - at 5 pm rain will start - but by this time I expect we are already back at the car. Most likely no dinner stop on way back - so might be back in Muc by 6.30 if no traffic jam. Remember again to take along: FFP2 mask (for cable car required), vaccination proof / test proof (required to enter Austria). And finally: please be at carpool meeting point in time (short before 8 - please don't let the others wait!). Looking forward for an nice hike! PS: have added a 5th seat in my car to allow for 1 extra person to join.
