Ciao dear hiking buddies! Happy new year everyone! Just catapulted from sunny Rome to Snowland and decided to create an event for spending together this Sunday 6th January! Weather is supposed to be snowy but not too cold, then why not celebrating epiphany with a nice easy panoramic hike. We go to Oberstdorf and we enjoy the surreal dreamy winter landscape made of icy waterfalls and caves of Breitachklamm ( http://www.breitachklamm.com/winter/ ).

Starting in Tiefenbach, the winter hiking trail heads through the entrance of the Breitachklamm gorge and straight into its depths. This is the deepest and one of the most impressive gorges in Europe. It is also one of the most beautiful natural geotopes in Bavaria, especially in winter when the frozen ice formations along the hiking trail that snakes its way through the gorge are an extraordinary natural sight. From the cash we go over to the Breitach river, keep to the right and walk in a slight ascent into the gorge. The valley constricts into a gorge, and from the level system the Klammweg becomes more and more exciting. The gorge is getting narrower, and the sunlight is getting less and less. The narrowest part of the gorge is not even one meter wide. At the rockfall of 23.09.1995 we leave the most exciting area of ​​the Breitachklamm on a staircase. It takes us out of the gorge in the direction of Waldhaus and the path crosses the Breitach on a metal bridge. Then it goes down a path to the torrent and branch off to the signposted point on the right. After a short steep climb, it goes back to a junction, where we keep to the right.

Soon after, the path branches off again, and we keep to the right to follow the signs to Tiefenbach. Then we have to go up a fairly steeply rising track in the forest slope, past the Fuchslochalp and turn right at a Stadel. Initially, the following path is still wide, but it soon laces to a narrow and steep root path in between, until we finally reach an asphalt road. The further circular route leads close the Engenkopf essentially to the northeast. We can make a short detour to the signposted sign to the right on the Zwingweg to the impressive gorge bridge on the Zwing and risk a few breathtaking views down into the gorge before returning to the track along the same path. We turn right there, turn right under Alpe Dornach and return to the starting point. Finally we head north till we have a panoramic view of Oberstdorf and the neighboring peaks, such as Rubihorn and Nebelhorn. After a short descent we cross the snowy meadows of the basin and reach Oberstdorf where we have a stop to eat and drink something together before going home :)
