It is one of the most famous and beautiful hike in Bavaria with great views of the Walchensee and Kochelsee. The ridge between Heimgarten and Herzogstand is the standout part of the hike. Had a plan to do this hike since long, so here it is.
It will be an easy-paced hike, and everyone stays together at all times. We will have lunch at the Berggasthaus Herzogstand, but bring some snacks and water (atleast 2L). Everyone is welcome to join. However, please refer to the distance of the hike, and especially the ridge part (there's rope for support). But for people with a fear of heights, this section might be difficult.
Another thing to consider is that it's been raining this week, so although Friday is a good window without rain (for now), it might be wet and slippery. So hiking boots are necessary, and poles are recommended.
We meet on Platform 30 in the Hbf at 8:40am and take the train to Kochel, which departs at 9:00am. We buy Bayern tickets for the whole trip on the platform together (57 euros for 5 people).
The train reaches Kochel at 10:08am, after which we catch a bus to Walchenseebahn at 10:15am.
The hike starts from here!
The hike itself should take around 6hrs and approx. 1hr at the hut for lunch on top. We climb Heimgarten first, then move over the ridge and reach Herzogstand. On our way down, we spend some good time at the hut. We should be able to take the bus back from Walchenseebahn (end point) at 5:09pm, reach Kochel bahnhof, and take a train to Munich. We will be in Munich at 7:00pm. It will be a good day out with plenty of time to take photos, eat and chill.
If the rain forecast changes by Thursday (tomorrow), I will have to cancel/shift the hike to a later date.
Note: I am not an expert, and everyone has to take care of themselves.
