Description

Please note: This is a 2G event - you must be fully vaccinated or recovered to join.

Description: Let's have a relaxed and nice walk together! I marked this as a social activity since it is a relatively easy tour with just 400m of altitude change and about 15km duration. It should take us between 4 - 4.5 hrs (plus potential breaks).

We will take the train from München Hbf to Garmisch-Partenkirchen where we start walking. We will see the Partnachklamm (gorge) with waterfall with the option to stop at the Kaiserschmarrn Alm for some sustenance and will finish at the Olympic ski jump.

There will be a 6€ fee to enter the Partnachklamm as far as I can tell (please refer to the website yourself: https://www.partnachklamm.de/de/Oeffnungszeiten-Preise

If you want to check out the exact route, take a look here (I was not able to add the new route in hiking buddies due to a website bug unfortunately): https://www.komoot.com/tour/534381099?share_token=an31LeETHg0PnEtre9Qo4y2ZvSzSQ102jFBBpoeCbErdAIkW8l&ref=wtd

Note: It can get pretty wet and damp inside the gorge, so choose your outfit accordingly.

Things to bring:

  • proof of vaccination or recovery (2G rule)
  • hiking boots
  • food/snacks and water (at least 1.5 litres)
  • medical or FFP2 mask for train
  • rain clothing, and warm clothing (I recommend layering)
  • cash for train ticket (11-16 € depending on total participants)
  • cash for entrance to Partnachklamm (6€)
  • reasonable level of fitness (although this is not a very difficult route, you should be able to walk those 15km with 400m of altitude change at a speed of 3.5-4km/h)

Meeting point:

  • Where? Hauptbahnhof, platform 33 (regional trains - when you look to the platforms from the entrance area, these platforms are to the very right hand side and require a bit of walking - make sure to plan your arrival time accordingly if you arrive via U-Bahn or S-Bahn)
  • When? 7:50 am - please don't be late! (our train leaves at 8:08 am - we need sufficient time to buy our ticket and board the train)

Ticket: Bayernticket; depending on the number of total participants, we can share a Bayernticket. Costs will vary between approx. 11-16 € per person.

Return: Ttrains from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Munich go every hour. Depending on how fast we walk and how long we break for, we will likely take either the 14:07 or 15:07 trains back, 16:07 at the very latest. Please note: Since we will share a Bayernticket, we will need to go back together. You will be back in Munich at 17:26 at the very latest.

Disclaimer: I am not a hiking our tour guide. This is a private event and every participant is responsible for themselves. Please make yourself familiar with the chosen route via the link as well as its requirements.

Good to know

We meet at Hauptbahnhof at the regional trains on platform 33 at 7:50 am - our train departs at 8:08 am. We will then buy the tickets depending on how many people are actually there - if you are not there by the time tickets are purchased, you will need to buy your own which can result in a higher cost for you.

The train ride takes about 1.5hrs either way.

Once you join the event, I will ask you to please confirm your participation via WhatsApp and add you to a WhatsApp group.

For planning purposes and so that may be waiting, please do remove yourself as soon as you know.
