Description

Hi Buddies,

I plan to go to Simetsberg this Sunday, and hopefully enjoy some magnificent views and a bit of Sun.

The weather forecast shows sun and clouds, but temperatures might stay low, so don't forget your warm clothes.

We will split a Werdenfels ticket (22€ first person + 8€ each additional person).

The 7:32 train from Munich Hbf should allow us to reach our starting point at Eschenlohe at 8:37.

We will have a nice hiking day ahead, which I have not done before (or don't remember, mmm), so I cannot describe in detail, but I would imagine 12km and 1000m elevation gain after we start, we will reach the peak, where I hope to have beautiful views and memories to store in our minds.

From the peak to Walchensee it will be another 7km, most of it downhill, and with views to the lake and beyond.

We will reach Einsiedl, where we have various options:

  • catch a bus to Kochel at 15:01 then train to Munich via Tutzing (back to Muc at 17:00)
  • catch a bus to Kochel at 16:01 then train to Munich via Tutzing (back to Muc at 18:00)
  • catch a bust to Klais at 16:44 and then train to Munich via Garmisch (back to Muc at 18:47)
  • ...

Depending on group pace and also how respectful the weather is with us, I believe we should be able to make it for the 16:00 train. However, do not quote me on that one, we might be much faster/slower than expected, or decide to spend more or less relaxing time at the top or on the way, and then we will go for earlier/later trains.

Please send me a private message if you join with your phone number and I will create a WhatsApp group for easier communication.

Good to know
  • Bring clothes for variable weather (around 0 in the morning and below 10°C all day, most likely below 5°C on the peak).
  • Proper shoes (don't expect much snow, but there might be some or could be wet and muddy).
  • Spikes in case we find some icy areas.
  • Food/drinks for the way (bring enough to complete the hike, there is no Hütte on the way).
  • Headlamp (sunset is around 16:30, just in case).
  • Get familiar with the route and download the track on your phone.
