Description

Updates about the current conditions: The forecast says it will be sunny, so please bring sunglasses/sunscreen. It will also be very cold, so bring warm clothes. There will be a lot of snow, so if you have snowshoes, please bring them with you. If we have 2-3 people with snowshoes, we should be fine. I will bring my snowshoes. The route is changed due to high avalanche risk in Allgäu. We will have lunch at the hut and will sledge back to parking. 

Arc'teryx sponsored hike: This hike is sponsored by Arc'teryx. 

  • Arc'teryx will cover the transportation cost for everyone. Each driver will receive 50 EUR for fuel + parking
  • Each participant will receive Goodies (i.e., toques, beanies, t-shirts etc.)
  • Each participant can get a test gear (gloves, jackets, backpack) for 1 month. Please get back to Amit for the test gear.
  • Participation criteria: You have no "no-shows" in last 6 months and you have done at least 5 hikes in Hiking Buddies. Drivers will all start from Munich. You have no objections in being photographed those pictures will be used in social media.

Carpool: If you have a car, please add it to the carpool, if you don't have a car you can join one of the existing cars in the carpool. If there is no convenient car for you, you can join waiting list and you will be notified when a car is added to the carpool. For drivers (driving directions), the recommended departure time from Munich: 7:00 AM.

Technical difficulty: The hike has difficulty T2, please read the blog to understand the requirements for sac scale T2. Please note that depending on the conditions, I might change the route.

Things to bring:

  • Waterproof hiking boots
  • Cash for the ride
  • Passport/ID
  • Food/drinks for the way
  • Warm clothes 
  • Gaiters and Spikes
  • Headlamp

Note: Please unjoin the event well in advance, if you don't plan to come. You cannot unjoin the event, when it is starting in less than 12 hours.

Disclaimer: Hiking can be dangerous. I am not a mountain guide. Everybody is responsible for her/himself. Make yourself familiar with the route and its requirements. It's recommended to download a map and bring a cell phone and first aid kit for emergencies.

@all participants, please have a look at the demo gear (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NFuhMXqG41lUWWAL3iI1ocCWwefbElfZxi2z9akRn4s/edit?usp=sharing) from Arcteryx and pick one item. You can come to my place (ask by PM) to pick up the gear on Wednesday or Thursday evening after 6 PM.

Currently Allgäu is at high risk of avalanche (grade 3) according to today's avalanche bulletin. I might change the route to another safer place, for example, https://www.hiking-buddies.com/routes/routes_list/20/ where the avalanche risk is 1.
