Description

!! Updated info !!

The avalanche risk increase from low (as of yesterday) to moderate below 1600m and considerable above 1600m, due to wind drifting snow and persistent weak layer. See Lawinenwarndiesnt

Must have:

  • Spikes (Grödel), needed if we find some icy layers.
  • Gaiters (Gamaschen), needed to avoid water coming into our boots. There will be significant fresh powder snow.

Let's all keep an eye on the conditions and if needed we might plan an alternative route.

Also, modified track to avoid crossing any protected area (Thanks Gaurav!). Good read to understand what are these protected areas and why are they protected areas (Wildschutzgebiet).

I plan to do this one on Sunday.

There will be snow all along so come prepared for it and for cold temperatures. In addition, there might be snow falling on us, but this we will only be able to tell afterwards (if it really did).

Meeting time 7:15, to take the train at 7:30.

I think we might need about 5:30h to complete the route, maybe a bit more, which means we might be at Sptizingsee to catch the bus back to Fischhausen/Neuhaus at 14:59 (alternatively 15:30, 15:59...).

Alternatively, we can detour and go to Sptizingsee via Rotwand, and warm a bit up at Rotwandhaus.

If you join, please, send me a private message with your phone number and I will create a WhatsApp group for easier communication.

Disclaimer

Please note, I am not a professional hiking organizer. Hence everyone joining this hike is responsible for themselves.

Please be prepared to complete the hike as if you are hiking on your own. We are a group and as a group we move together without gaps in the group.

Note: Please unjoin the event well in advance, if you don't plan to come. You cannot unjoin the event, when it is starting in less than 12 hours.

Good to know
  • Bring warm clothes  (below 0 most of the day).
  • Proper shoes (there will be snow).
  • Spikes in case we find some icy areas.
  • Gaiters
  • Food/drinks for the way (bring enough to complete the hike, I am not sure the Hüttes on the way will be open).
  • Headlamp (sunset is around 16:30, just in case).
  • Hiking poles might be of good help.
  • Get familiar with the route and download the track on your phone.

Your route might be going through some of the protected areas. Check out here: https://www.alpenvereinaktiv.com/mobile/de/sperrung/neue-wildschutzgebiete-am-spitzingsee/64599436/ There is a big fine for disturbing the protected areas, so be careful :)
