Description

Edit: After checking again it is recommended to bring crampons

Also: Please join the whatsapp group :)

This seems to be a classic hike for people from Munich so I'd like to try it this weekend. According to the internet this is a busy trail and on the top are quite some people due to the fact that theres a cable car. If you don't mind and just feel like a medium/ beginner friendly social hike feel free to sign up.

If you are on the list, add me on +353 879316799 so I make a whatsapp group.

This is a 3G event - you must be:

  • fully vaccinated or recovered
  • have a certified recent, 24 hours, Corona Test(Antigen/Fast Test) or corona Booster-shot vaccination certificate which is a minimum of 14 days old.
  • Please be aware and bring your documents accordingly.

On the train the 3G-rule applies.

It is going to snow please bring warm clothes.

This is an easy hike. I will bring my (friendly) dog and thats why I limited the number of people to 9 (he goes on Bayern ticket).

Estimated hiking time in total 4h – up ca. 2:15h, down ca. 1:45h (we will take a break up there)

The train  to Kochel leaves at 9 am from platform 27.

Please be at the station before 8:40. I will buy the ticket 15 minutes before departure for the present people. We then take the bus from Kochel to Kesselberg Paßhöhe, Kochel a. See.

I will purchase Sunday morning(we may not need a Bayern Ticket). If you are not present when the ticket is purchased, you will need to buy it on your own.

These trains fill up quickly, so the earlier we get on, the higher our chances of having seats together.

Please bring enough food and water for the hike. There is a hut on top and if there is space we can get a drink/snack there https://www.berggasthaus-herzogstand.de/

Things to bring:

  • proof of vaccination or recovery 3G
  • hiking shoes
  • food and water (at least 1.5 liters)
  • FFP2 mask for train
  • warm clothing
  • cash for a train ticket (11-16 euros depending on total number) You must bring cash! Most huts also only accept cash
  • good energy and good fitness
  • spikes (if you have, not sure its necessary)
  • gaiters
  • Rain jacket
  • hiking poles (if you have, not sure its necessary)

Disclaimer: I am not a guide. I am not an experienced hiker either. Everybody is responsible for themselves. Make yourself familiar with the route and its requirements. It's recommended to download the map, bring a cell phone and a first aid kit for emergencies. Please prepare as if you were hiking alone. Due to limited daylight hours, you must have a headlamp in case of emergency or delays. If you think I should add something please let me know.
