General information

Weather: As of Tuesday, weather forecasts show a nice late afternoon without too many clouds.

Route: Snowy & icy trail.

Pace / fitness level: Requires some hiking experience and a good fitness level. Spikes are recommended.

Transportation: This is a carpool event, see explanations below. I have a car but other drivers are welcome to add theirs. You're free to join by public transports, in which case you can add a "fake" car via the carpool button. There's a connection at 15h08, which makes you arrive on time.

Test Arc'teryx gear for free!

The list of available gear is on this Google Sheet. Before each hike, you can ask me (the day before) to bring the item you're interested in testing during the hike. At the end of the hike, you will have the option to keep it for one month. That's an amazing opportunity when you know those jackets cost about 600 CHF. This gear is provided by the brand itself (Hiking Buddies being sponsored).

Schedule (approximately)

• If you're joining a car, check the Carpool page to see what time the car you joined is leaving, as well as the meeting point for the passengers in your car.
• 15h30: We all meet at the parking / starting point of the route (Parking Mooshaldenstrasse 37, 5430 Wettingen). We start latest at 15h30, I will not wait longer for latecomers.
• 17h00: Peak & sunset
• 18h30: Parking
• 19h00: Zürich

This is an approximation, many factors can impact it (ice / snow, latecomers, traffic jam...).

Gear

Important rules about Hiking Buddies

• You have until 12 hours before the start of the event to drop out from the hike.
• Participants not showing up will get a "NO-SHOW" flag on their profile, which decreases significantly your chances to be accepted on future hikes.
• The organizer is no professional guide, participants must be responsible for themselves (and that means to do some research about the routes and its potential dangers / tricky sections to know if you have the experience for it).

Carpool - Explanations

Drivers are welcome to add their cars as long as the limit of participants has not been reached.

Instructions for passengers in my car

• My car is a BMW Gran Tourer Grey (6 seats). In case 5 people are in my car, I can add the 6th seat for a small person upon request. Plate starts with "M-EL".
• Meeting time is indicated in the carpool page (green button at the top). 
• Meeting point will be within 5 minutes walk from Zürich Brunau (depends where I could park my car). The exact meeting point will be given the day before on a comment at the bottom of this page, and via mail.
• Fuel prepayment: Please pay the amount indicated on the carpool page for my car before the hike (to avoid no shows). Can be CHF or EUR (same amount). If no payment is done, I will give your seat to someone else 12 hours before the start of the event (or earlier). 

Passengers in other cars need to refer to the info given by the driver in the Carpool page.

Where / when do we meet?

I've had so many people asking me this question, so here is a little table depending on who you are.

How can I join by public transports?

In case of a carpool event (a carpool button shows up in that case), if you want to join by public transports, follow these steps:

In case no one else joins yet by public transports

1. Click on Carpool (top of the page)
2. Click on Add a car (even if it is not actually a car)
3. Set the number of seats available to 20, so that others joining by public transports can just use your "fake car" instead of adding another one (it would get too messy on the carpool). 
4. In the field Contact details, enter "Fake car for Public transports", and in the field Instructions please write "Join this fake car if you're also going by public transports" to make it clear to others.

In case someone else already joins by public transports

1. Join the fake car already created

In case of a non carpool event

1. Click "Join event".

Important: You need to figure out yourself which station you need to reach (check  the closest one to the meeting point). What matters is to be on the meeting point at the indicated time.
