We'll dip our toes into Austria to tackle a classic peak in the Wilderkaiser area, the prominent summit of the Pyramidenspitze. We'll take the train to Kufstein and then ascend gradually up the ridge, stopping off at Naunspitze and Peterskopfl along the way before leaving the treeline completely and heading up to the Pyramidenspitze itself! Once we've stopped for a summit selfie and a look around, we'll descend rapidly back to Kufstein and catch a train home, exhausted but content.
This is a long day hike (bring a headtorch just in case), so don't plan on being back in Munich before 2000! There's been plenty of snow in the last week, and so we expect to use snowshoes, though spikes will also be useful. There is always a danger of avalanches in these high areas, and so you must bring an LVS set and know how to use it. There is a hut along the way, but we may not stop there if we are short of time - bring enough food (mars bars, bananas, Studentenfutter and my personal favourite - bergkase and sriracha sandwiches) to last all day, as well as plenty of water.
