Description

Let's enjoy the Golden October on a long march along the Isar from Bad Tölz to Sylvensteinspeicher on the sunny Sunday. At the end will have a picnic until sunset with Alpenglow.

The hike will take about 7h.

Logistics is a bit complicated on this tour, as we will not use public transport, for several reasons.

For this tour to work we need a least two cars (car A, car B).

The preliminary plan is:

  • 9:00 meeting at Bahnhof Bad Tölz, putting picnic/BBQ stuff into car B (my car with cooling boxes)
  • all cars go to destination (30min ride) without passengers, while the other participants enjoy the time in Bad Tölz with a little walk, coffee etc.
  • all cars except Car A will be parked at Nachtparkplatz, 83661 Lenggries https://goo.gl/maps/fmyzCYLo4johwJgm8
  • 9:30 Car A returns with all drivers to Bad Tölz. the slower group might already start hiking
  • 10:00 start hiking
  • 17:00 at the latest: arrival at destination. start of picnic/BBQ
  • 18:26 sunset
  • 18:45 or later: return. driver of car A gets lift in one of the cars to Bad Tölz (alternative: leaves early with bus to Bad Tölz).

The Stammstrecke is partially closed on the weekend - be prepared! https://www.mvv-muenchen.de/fahrplanauskunft/fahrplanaenderungen/bauarbeiten-stammstrecke/index.html

We might split into a faster and slower group, depending on the participants. Send me a PM if you volunteer to lead the slower one.

Weather forecast sunny, dry, max. 13-19°C

Route: The route is rather long, but without technical difficulties and with little elevation gain. At the end there is an optional viewpoint on a hill.

Technical Difficulty: This hike is suitable for fit hikers, exercising sports regularly (e.g., hiking, running, biking), which are able to move 7h continously. We will walk fast due to the long distance and short day. You should be able to maintain a pace of about 5,5-6km/h in the flat parts for hours. Good shoes and stamina are required. We will NOT stop at a restaurant, nor will we make longer breaks before the final picnic.

Transport: We will go by car as the starting point is not easily accessible by public transport. We'll share the car expenses. The driver(s) may require passengers to pay in advance.  Please read the car instructions carefully. If the hike or lift is cancelled or postponed, the drivers must reimburse the prepaid payments. Otherwise a passenger dropping out before departure must only be reimbursed if the driver can find a replacement. Car drivers must contact me first if they drop out.

Drivers: Drivers should check whether all passenger fulfil the mandatory conditions (see below) and reject those who don't. Parking fee is 5€/car. Please take traffic jams due to rush hour into account.

Joining: Click on carpool. If a car has free seats, read the instructions and possibly join the car. Otherwise add yourself to the waiting list and regularly check for free seats. You are not automatically assigned to a car.

Legal disclaimer: This is not a guided tour. I merely organize the trip to the starting point with like-minded, qualified, properly equipped and reliable persons. Every participant must be able to navigate her/himself on the suggested route. If you join, you acknowledge that hiking is dangerous, you are fully responsible for yourself and that you have sufficient insurance (DAV, Bergrettung or similar).

Note: Please unjoin the event well in advance, if you don't want to come. You cannot unjoin the event when it is starting in less than 12 hours. No-shows will be recorded in your profile.

Good to know

Things to bring (mandatory):

  • water proof hiking shoes or boots (worn-in), no sneakers!
  • water for a long hike (min. 2l, reservoir recommended)
  • drinks and food for the picnic, something to sit on
  • adequate clothing (long pants, multiple layers for 13-20°C)
  • a negative rapid test result within the last 24h is appreciated (the incidence is record high)

optional:

  • headlamp (for the slow group)
  • sun protection
