Let´s go to east Bayern for a beautiful hike where water will be the protagonist since we will be hiking from Bayern to Pinzgau in Austria crossing two canyons.
From Renner bus stop in Schneizlreuth we walk in the direction of Saalach, we cross it and then go the right. After about 45 minutes we reach Haiderhof. Here is where the path through Aschauer Klamm begins. The Aschauer Klamm with its countless small waterfalls, gorges and reservoirs is a real gem. For kilometers the hiking trail rises gently against the direction of flow, you cross several small bridges and in some places the path is secured with steel cables. In this nature reserve the water is the superstar. Next to the canyon, the path is very green, with flowers, bushes and trees. After another short climb we have reached the Aschau and hike with a view of the Loferer Steinberge over the Reither Mähder to Reith. We passed now the border and we are in Austria in Pinzgau region. Once at the bottom, near Reith in Unken, the short but spectacular Innersbachklamm awaits us before we reach the village Unken, turn right and walk through the Klebertal in the direction of the Felsenene of the Kniepass.
At the Kniepass, the old road led through about 15 m above the new road. The guardhouse, the so-called Kniepass Fortress, which is surrounded by a wall with loopholes, stands on a rock. There was great battle here when the French invaded in 1805 and 1809. We will probably have a break in a restaurant in Unken.
From the center of Unken, walk briefly along the pavement of the main road in the direction of Salzburg and turn right onto Josefsallee opposite the Post - Family Resort. Here we hike along the Saalach to the Haiderhof and finally to Renner bus stop In Schneizlreuth.
