Description

This would be the Hausberg of Garmisch, were there not already a mountain named Hausberg. In any case, Wank offers stunning views and a warm hut at the top (I’m told they cook amazing Kaiserschmarrn!). As the cable car is not running, it should be considerably quieter at the top than usual.

After the hike, we can enjoy the Christmas market in Garmisch before heading back to Munich.

Kit list

This is what I am bringing; your kit list should be similar.

  • sturdy hiking boots
  • spikes
  • gaiters (optional)
  • FFP2/medical mask
  • head torch
  • first aid kit, survival bag/emergency bivvy
  • snacks
  • lunch (just in case the hut is not open)
  • cash
  • more snacks
  • water (2 ℓ)
  • Alpenverein membership, or similar insurance
  • waterproofs (jacket, optional trousers)
  • sunglasses
  • suncream
  • phone (please save my number +49 163 2658919/WhatsApp/Facebook Messenger), extra battery
  • map (downloaded to your phone with the route, e.g. with OsmAnd; or on paper)
  • mat to sit on (optional)

Transport

The trains are finally running to and from Garmisch again! We will travel with Werdenfelstickets. We will buy group tickets for everyone at the meeting point on time, please contact me if you are running late and would still like a ticket.

Outbound: München Hbf 09:32 –(RE 6)– 10:53 Farchant

Return: any of the roughly twice-hourly trains from Garmisch to Munich.

Weather

It should be dry but windy and cold, bring warm layers! There could be snow underfoot, which is why spikes are recommended.

Safety

Please observe all laws and guidelines for preventing the spread of coronavirus. I have created this event in order to find other people keen on walking in the mountains, but I am not a guide, and each member is responsible for their own safety. You are expected to familiarise yourself with the route before registering, and only register once you are happy that you can complete it.

Hello! This sounds great.. is there any chance of extending the event size or if not anyone have an appetite to create a second group? I can’t join the waitlist now (my bad for being slow but never mind!)

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow, at the station at 9:15. If you can’t make it, please unjoin as soon as possible! If you’re on the waiting list, there are still several other hikes tomorrow with spaces (and please leave the waiting list if you have other plans).

Very short notice , and dont know if you will even see this , but could I join and bring my dog - he would also need a place on one of the tickets which would take the total number up to ten ...
