Hello hikers,

This Saturday we are going to hike form a bus stop near Garmisch (Kaltenbrunn) to the Wank peak. It is a typical winter hike! But I have personally never done it from the South side.
Please join if you think you are relatively fit, but nothing special required. We expect a pace of ~ 400 m/hr in the vertical direction. 

We will take the train back.

Numerous reasons for this.
1) We're buying an online Bayern ticket and will share it digitally in the morning (or the evening before!) Need to be sure about who's participating at 6 am on Saturday at the latest!
2) Communication in the morning purposes! If some shit goes down, some Sbahns don't come, whatever - better have an easy communication channel.

Departure

We're taking the RE 61/62 which leaves Pasing at 7:20 on Gleis 4
-> 8:22 arrival at Garmisch. 9608 gets us to the start point from 8:37-8:48

Return

Plenty of trains to go back: Hourly 14:06, 15:06. Afterwards- 2 per hour 15:25, 16:05.
You're free to stay longer if you'd like, since we will all have access to the ticket.  


Good to know

Prepare for proper winter conditions and bring food! Also have:

  • Proper hiking shoes
  • Gaiters, unless you enjoy snow falling into your shoe.
  • Spikes.
  • Poles! Very helpful in slippery conditions.
  • Wind/rain-proof clothes!
  • (Optional) headlight 
  • Water 
  • Decent or at minimum average mood
  • (Optional) dry sense of humor
  • (Optional, appreciated) collection of jokes about the name of the mountain
