I am planning to walk a stretch of the Altmühl-Panoramaweg. We will start in Solnhofen, where the famous Archaeopteryx fossil was found. At the beginning of our hike we will come across the 12 apostles, a beautiful rock formation that was originally a reef in the Jurassic sea. Apart from its geological significance our hiking trail touches some important natural preserves. In the Altmühl valley you can still find some juniper heathlands and limestone grassland with rare animal and plant species.
Our hike will end in the village Dollnstein, where we catch the train back to Munich.
Most of this tour follows good paths with some moderate ascents. It is suitable for beginners with a reasonable fitness level.
Please bring enough water (2 L at least) and food for the whole day including a whole lunch. Good hiking shoes, sun protection, sun glasses and sun cream are mandatory.
We will travel on a Bayernticket which will cost between 9 and 14 € depending on the number of participants. Please bring cash accordingly.
We will meet at Munich Hauptbahnhof in front of track 21. I will wear a red jacket and a grey rucksack.
Please be on time at the train station (08:05), otherwise you will have to buy your own ticket.
Be aware I have never been to that area and I do not know the tour. Everyone is joining at his/her own responsibility.
