Hi everybody! Let’s visit the so called “flower mountain”, Hönig.

I will use my Deutschland-/ “49-Euro”-ticket. But if some of you want to share a Werdenfels-ticket, you can use the comments below for planning that.

Good to know

Meeting point: at 8:10 at Munich HBF, Entrance of Track 29

We will take RB 6 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (leaving at 8:29) and another train to Bichlbach-Berwang (arrival time 10:43).

Things to bring:

proper hiking boots
spikes ("Grödel")
hiking poles (optional)
"49-EUR-ticket" + some cash to pay for the Austrian part of the way on the way back (see comment below)
enough food and water for the day
sun/ rain protection
good mood :)

Sorry everybody, I had planned a little to quickly, right now there is still more snow than flowers on the famous "flower mountain". ;) POSTPONED until the Saturday before Pentecost

Just a reminder: the Deutschland ticket doesn’t work for the return trip since Bichlbach is in Austria. The ticket control is kind enough to just ask me pay for the train ride till Griesen (for 5,40€) this time though and they will take cash only.

According to my call today with the tourist info in Berwang, there is still some snow at the peak.

I did not reach the peak on that day because I wanted to join an event later that day (I was guessing that it’s a straightforward trail path since it’s T2) but I realised that not only is it narrow and slippery I have to sort of “crawl” through multiple “frozen waterfall”, that I decided it doesn’t worth risking all of these by myself just to do the same thing a week later and that I’d certainly miss that event if I keep crawling. So yes I think not following the GPX to avoid that narrow path is a good call.

After consultation with the tourist office in Berwang (today, 25.05.), I have decided not to take the route as in the GPX-track, but via Kögelehütte to the peak and the same way back. They said, that they would currently not recommend it, yet, to go through the Älpeletal (which is generally known for the necessity to cross snowfields from old avalanches and slippery, narrow paths).
