Description

Not a beginner hike. But not super hard or difficult. You just should have some previous experience going this high.

I don't expect any large amounts of snow, after all these hot days, and we'll ascend and descend on the southern side of the mountain.

It's possible that we encounter problematic conditions on the final part to the summit, or the descent cia Upsspitze. In that case we'll turn around. On the way down we can take a break at Tuftlalm, and then time our descent to catch our connection back to Munich.

In the morning, we'll take the 7:13 train from Hauptbahnhof, and we should arrive in Lermoos at 8:56 to start the hike.

A DAV membership is recommended for this hike, because of the mountain rescue insurance.

What to bring:

  • Have a good fitness level
  • Waterproof Hiking boots
  • Flexible hiking clothes, it will be quite warm and sweaty going up, but it might get much colder higher up and going down.
  • Food and Water for a whole day of hiking (ca. 2 Liter Water recommended), don't rely on taking a break at the hut.
  • Charged smartphone (and my number is +49 152 28632131, in case you get lost, or fail to find the group in the morning).

Good to have equipment

  • First aid kit
  • Extra battery / Powerbank for your phone
  • Hiking poles
  • Spare socks (if your feet get wet)
  • Crampons and gaiters, to handle deep snow and icy parts. Gaiters might be useful near the top. Crampons quite unlikely to be useful I think.

Cost per person

  • Werdenfels Ticket: Between 11 and 14 Euros per person (Bring Coins!)
