Description

Hiking to the highest German peak: Talstation Ehrwalder Zugspitzbahn – Gamskar – Wiener Neustädter Hütte – Stopselzieher Klettersteig – Zugspitze. Route: http://out.ac/IKkH9t . Scrambling or climbing of categories up to A/B. Only for experienced hikers: sure-footedness, a head for heights, good physical condition, and good equipment are necessary. I plan to take the cable car down.

Necessary:

  • hiking boots,
  • ⩾ 3 L of water (I recommend ⩾ 4 L of water),
  • via-ferrata gear including a helmet (some hikers said they don't need the gear, but you you are such a hiker, you should be extra fit and know what you're doing), and
  • money for the cable car.

Optional:

  • crampons,
  • warm clothes (depending on the weather),
  • hiking poles (especially for the folks unsure whether they can make it to the summit), and
  • a head lamp.

If many participants show up, we split into groups according to the vertical speed, e.g., a group with ⩽ 300 m/h, a group with ≈ 375 m/h, and a group with ⩾ 450 m/h.

In case of rain, snow, or thunderstorm, or in case of too few participants, the hike might be canceled, modified, or moved.

Recently, after having given a ride to a group of hiking buddies with my car, I found the floor of my car dirty (despite the buddies having allegedly tried to clean their hiking boots before taking a seat and despite rubber mats) beyond the point of being cleanable with a usual car vacuum cleaner (I tried!); cleaning the floor is highly likely to require hiring an expensive interior-washing service. I dealt with such issues myself previously and can no longer afford doing this. So here are the updated rules for the folks who get a ride with my car: (1) keep your dirty hiking gear (e.g., dirty boots and dirty hiking-pole tips) in bags of yours, (2) don't eat inside (drinking pure water is o.k.), and if you are really hungry, ask me to stop and then eat outside, and (3) someday – and that day may never come – I will call upon you to help me cleaning the car with time or money.

Other drivers may (or may not) have their own regulations concerning their cars.

Legal:

The tour is unguided; I'm not a guide. Every hiker is fully responsible for himself/herself and hikes at his/her own risk.
