Description

Hike to the Kampenwand – Innerer Ostgipfel: Wanderparkplatz Schoßrinn – Südwandsteig – inner-eastern peak of Kampenwand – Scheibenwand – Bauernwand – Sonnwendwand – Parkplatz Schoßrinn.  Route: https://www.komoot.de/tour/1165712438?ref=wtd , with small parts up to T6 according to komoot. Cable-secured sections exist; a bit of scrambling will be necessary, mostly of degree I and a tiny bit of degree I+/II-; you'll need both hands. The most difficult portion (Südwandsteig to the inner-eastern peak of Kampenwand, partially T6 with scrambling) can be replaced by a slightly more southern route (which is originally planned only for return right after the inner-eastern peak of Kampenwand). On the way back from Kampenwand, a hiker may alternatively (instead of hiking downhill as per map) take the cable car downhill and walk to the parking lot.

Necessary:

  • ankle-covering hiking boots and
  • plenty of water (the exact amount depends on your weight; I recommend ⩾ 4 L).

Optional:

  • snacks;
  • hiking poles (suggested for hiking down);
  • more strongly suggested: helmet;
  • climbing set, harness;
  • perhaps also climbing gloves;
  • warm clothes, rain poncho, crampons, gaiters (in case of cold weather, rain, ice, snow);
  • whoever wishes to properly climb in addition (I don't): rope.

We might check out the restaurant Sonnenalm before or after visiting the summit.

In case of rain, snow, thunderstorm, or too few participants (also if they don't show up last minute), the hike might be canceled, modified, or moved for safety reasons.

I plan to drive according to http://www.google.de/maps/dir/Fürstenrieder+Str.+249,+81377+München/Wessobrunner+Pl.+5,+81377+München/Wanderparkplatz+Schoßrinn,+i.+Chiemgau,+83229+Aschau+im+Chiemgau and pick up folks along the way. The price for being driven with my car might vary slightly (± a few €) depending on the parking fees and the number of folks in the car. The parking lot is situated on the road St2093, after the turn to the house Hainbach 38 (and on the same eastern side of the road); right after the creek Klausgraben, turn in the direction of the house Hainbach 30. On the other side of the road St2093 (and to the north-east of the parking lot) there's Hainbach 27. The closest bus stops are Hainbach to the north of the parking lot and Neuhäusl to the south of the parking lot.

Tidiness rules for the folks who get a ride with my car: (1) keep your dirty hiking gear (e.g., dirty boots and dirty hiking-pole tips) in bags of yours (and sit in the car in relatively clean street shoes or relatively clean flip-flops), (2) don't eat inside (drinking pure water is o.k.; the driver may also sip a caffeine drink), and if you are really hungry, ask me to stop and then eat outside, and (3) someday – and that day may never come – I will call upon you to help me cleaning the car with time or money.

Other drivers may (or may not) have their own regulations concerning their cars.

I'm neither a guide nor an organizer; the hike is unguided. Everyone is fully responsible for himself/herself and hikes at his/her own risk.

@Matt, Alex: Please feel free to upload your photos (without people) to this Web page under “Gallery”, “Click and Drag here to upload pictures” so that we all get some points. As least one would suffice. (I have not taken any photos myself.) Cheers, Alex.
