Rather spontaneous hike to Zugspite via Gatterl since I haven't tried going up from this route yet. According to the SAC scale HB gives it shouldn't be so hard (no via Ferrata, no climbing etc) just that its super long (40km+). Yet I would like to complete this hike in one day. Based on my experience few days ago, we could still manage the last train departing from Garmisch at 2306 even if we descend from the peak at around 1530 (provided that we start jogging a bit on the relatively flat region in Reintal) so I will make decision according to that and the actual situation at the peak.
You may want to bring the following (again, non-exhaustive list of items):
- Water
- Snacks / energy bar
- Cash
- ID
- Power bank
- hiking poles
- head lamp (we will most certainly still be in the mountain after sunset, so take one with you please)
p.s. Seems like most of the huts along the way won't be open on that day, so don't count on them too much.
p.s. You can certainly take the train at Hauptbahnhof platform 27 (RB65 departing at 0532 to Weilheim) instead of from Pasing pl.4 at 0538. In this case just inform me and we meet on the train.
