Description

This event is only happening if the weather conditions are okay. But the chance for snow in January there are pretty high. I will update you a week before.

Last update: The sledging track is opened, see you tomorrow. For any questions, please join the Whatsapp.

Update: Right now the long sledge track "Big Pintenfritz" is closed. There is a chance that it can open till the weekend according to their tourist office, since there will be snow on Friday.

My estimate is that we can do this one and if the big sleding track is closed there is another one from Bachalpsee down to Bort, number 51

( https://www.jungfrau.ch/maps/winter/grindelwald-first/?mode=tobogganing&focus=resort_3_track_3 ). Next update tomorrow.

Dear hiking buddies.

new year, new adventures. On the "Dreikönigstag" we will go to Grindelwald.

The plan is to walk up from the middle station of the cable car, rent a sledge a "Grindelwald First", walk to Faulhorn and Sledge down. The area is just astonishing and it will be a great day.

Time Frame:

10:00 meet and take the cable car

10:00-10:30 cable car

10:30-12:30 walk to Grindelwald first

12:30-13:00 small break and get rental sledges

13:00-15:30 walk to Faulhorn

15:30-17:00 sledge down, maybe take a break at the hut on the way

Meeting point:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Y3LCaxPm1ERyNzAu7

Grindelwald gondola station (15 min walk from the station)

Hike:

We meet at the gondola station and take the gondola up to cable car station called "Schreckfeld". From there we got 10.4 Km and 820 height meters to walk. It is not easy in the snow but doable, we can change the lead of the group. We walk around 1.5 hours to Grindelwald First, get the sledges and walk 2h to Faulhorn. The sledge ride from there is the "longest in the world" according to the web page and i looks great ( https://www.jungfrau.ch/de-ch/schlitteln/laengste-schlittelabfahrt-der-welt/ ). The name is "Big Pintenfritz".

Picnic:

No picnic planned, there will be some time to eat when we get the sledges (around 13:00).

Either on the way down at the hut (Bussalp) or if it too dark already later in Grindelwald i would like to stop somewhere and eat. Whoever wants to can join.

We will see where and when spontaneously.

If its around 10 people i am happy to go to a restaurant, if its around 20 we just rob a kebab place.

Equipment:

Snow shoes for walking up, crampons or spikes optional but might come in handy.

Good shoes, WARM CLOTHES.

For sledging down i recommend snow pants.

Application:

As always there is the possibility to come by car.

Join the car pool and either create a car yourself or have a look who can take you there.

For those who come by public transport please create a "car" in the carpool with around 30 seats and use "public transport" as a description. That way others can join that one and we keep a good overview.

If that one is full, create another one with 30 seats please.

No maximum number of participants.

Public Traffic from Zurich:

07:02 departure Zurich hb, platform 31 to Brig IC8

07:58 Bern

08:04 departure Bern platform 6 to Interlaken, IC 61

08:58 Interlaken Ost

09:04 departure Interlaken Ost platform 2B R61 to Grindelwald

09:40 Grindelwald

walk 15 min to the gondola.
