General information

Let’s celebrate New Year and watch fireworks from Uetliberg. If you don’t have plans for the New Year's Eve celebration this is a good option.

Schedule

22h15: We meet at Albisgütli parking (click to see on Google Maps). Easily accessible by public transport.

22h30: We start hiking

23h30: We reach the top and wait for the fireworks

00h00: Official Countdown.

00h20: Fireworks. 

01h00: Back to the parking

The hike is suitable for everyone, we will use the panoramic route to go up and the main Lanterna route to descent.

Afterward party on the top of the Uetliberg. Bring drinks. 

At the top, we will try to find a good position to watch the fireworks and make a toast. Afterward, who would like can continue the celebration on the top of Uetliberg. There is a good place where we can listen to our own music and enjoy it. If it will be too cold on the top we will descant and find some other solution.

The event will be canceled in case of fog.

By bike, you need a little uphill endurance which could be a good warmup activity.
There is also payable parking.

Starting time: 22h30. That is the official starting time of hike, we don't wait for latecomers 

Required: We will ascend and descend in the dark so bring a lamp. 

Recommended: Warm clothes, Shoes with good grip, clothes to change, drinks for the toast. Don't be drunk for the way down though.

A few things about Hiking Buddies platform:

• The organizer is no professional guide. Participants are responsible for themselves, must do their own research about the route, and must be able to navigate by themselves (in case the groups split for some reason, for example).
• Unjoining allowed until 12 hours before the start of the event. If you face any emergency, contact me via the platform.

To do before the hike

• The day of the hike AND one hour before the hike, come have a look at the comments at the bottom of this page to know about potential last minute updates.
• Prior to the hike, please download the GPX file and have it imported in a GPS application on your phone. See Julian's Facebook post about GPS apps. You can download the file from this event page.
  

Known bug: Make sure the file you have downloaded has a .gpx extension. If not, just rename it, as it might happen that you get a ".gpx.xml" file instead of just ".gpx" when downloading from a phone.
