Lets Enjoy a realx winter hike- beginner friendly
Beautiful, family-friendly (winter) hike to the Hohe Asten. If there is enough snow, experienced tobogganists can whizz down the winding route.
It's always the right time of year for the Hohe Asten (1104 m): sometimes you can enjoy the May green of the beech trees, sometimes the cooling mountain breeze, sometimes the autumnal views. In winter, the hike is attractive because the snow is more powdery at over 1100 metres, the trees are even more beautifully snow-covered than in the Inn Valley below and - if you have a sledge with you - you can be back down again in no time. Apart from short flat sections to keep your legs moving while sledging, the alpine road from the mountain farms of the Asten back to Flintsbach has a decent gradient. Sledgers should note that the lower section tends to be icy and adjust their speed accordingly!
In general, the winter hike leads mainly through forest, but it doesn't get boring. Right at the bottom, you walk past Falkenstein Castle with its well-preserved keep. Later you have the choice of climbing the Petersbergl (848 m), then you pass the romantic "Bauer am Berg" and finally you climb a last wide bend over meadows with great views until you reach the Hohe Asten. The farms are among the highest farms in Germany that are inhabited all year round and a stop at the cosy restaurant is a must.
