Description

The Kreuzspitze (2185m) is the highest peak in the German part of the Ammergau Alps and offers a wonderful panorama including Eibsee, Zugspitze, Karwendel, Allgäu and Starnberger lake.

Route: The very varied round tour via Kreuzspitzl (2089m) includes some scrambling, an optional crux, beautiful flowers, exposed ridges and the possibility for screeing down the Hochgrieskar.

The tour on the north side of the mountain is optimal for a hot summer day. It will be postponed if there is bad weather or if the rocks are still wet. We could extend the tour to Kuchelbergkopf.

Preliminary schedule: we'll meet in Munich at around 7 o'clock and at the starting point in the valley at ca 8:20. I hope to be back before sunset. We might have dinner at Kloster Ettal (with supposedly one of the best beers).

Technical Difficulty: This hike is NOT suitable for beginners. It involves some easy scrambling (UIAA I). You have to be absolutely surefooted and no fear of heights. You should have above average pace (>450m gain/hour) and stamina. There is a small crux (UIAA II) which can be circumvented.

Transport: We will go by car as the starting point is not easily accessible by public transport. The driver(s) may require passengers to pay in advance. Please read the car instructions carefully. If the hike or lift is cancelled or postponed, the drivers must reimburse the prepaid payments. Otherwise a passenger dropping out before departure must only be reimbursed if the driver can find a replacement. Car drivers must contact me first if they drop out.

Joining: Click on carpool. If a car has free seats, read the instructions and possibly join the car. Otherwise add yourself to the waiting list and regularly check for free seats. You are not automatically assigned to a car. If a car is deleted, you must add yourself to the waiting list again.

Legal disclaimer: This is not a guided tour. I merely organize the trip to the starting point with like-minded, qualified, properly equipped and reliable persons. Every participant must be able to navigate her/himself on the suggested route. If you join, you acknowledge that hiking is dangerous, you are fully responsible for yourself and that you have sufficient insurance (DAV, Bergrettung or similar).

Good to know

On the day before the hike, please check whether it was postponed (due to weather) and check your emails for further informations. I'll send you an invitation to a WhatsApp group.

Things to bring:

  • hiking (!) boots
  • water (min. 2l, reservoir recommended)
  • food/snacks (there is no hut)
  • appropriate clothing (it will be about 10°C in the morning, ca 25°C at noon, head protection - the sun is burning)
  • your passport or ID (!) because you we are passing the border
  • charged smartphone, emergency no 112 saved, optionally powerbank
  • sun glasses, sunscreen
  • hiking poles, gloves (for scrambling)
  • optional: gaiters and helmet (for screeing)

Note: Please unjoin the event well in advance, if you don't want to come. You cannot unjoin the event when it is starting in less than 12 hours.
