Back from Rome and heading back to beautiful Alps!
Let´s go to Tyrol for a very rewarding hike including a beautiful gorge, an old pilgrimage mountain monastery, two beautiful panoramic peaks, a nice hut on the way down from the peaks and a well deserved final relax at a lake. ;)
We will leave very early so we are not too stressed with last bus timing and we can spend more time chilling at Achensee.
We travel from Munich to Stans in Austria, changing in Kufstein. We will buy Bayern ticket plus OBB group ticket to cover the route.
From Stans we first cross the impressive Wolfsklamm passing over steps, ridges and rocky canyons alongside impressive waterfalls. The wild waters of the Stallenbach, Gamsbach and Georgenbergerbach mountain rivers carved increasingly deeper inroads into the limestone of the Karwendel Mountains, forming this extraordinary gorge.

The mountain is special for the long east ridge coming up from Jenbach through lonely forest to pleasant uplands. Once on top, you'll want to continue west into higher Karwendel peaks.
Stanser Joch and Ochsenkopf is part of the easternmost Karwendel subgroup, the Rappenspitze - Stanser Joch Ridge. The ridge runs east - west and its southern slopes dip down to the Inn valley at Jenbach, Stans, Vomp and Schwaz. To the north there is Weißenbachtal, Bärenkopf and Achensee valley with the fjordlike lake Achensee.
Stanser Joch and Ochsenkopf is not part of the Karwendel National Park but it is a wilderness area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet).
Immediately after the gorge we pass through the pilgrimage church, St. Georgenberg. so we can catch blessing from above - so a bit of a pilgrimage does not hurt considering the long hike we have in front of us.
From the pilgrimage church, the trail becomes noticeably steeper and this changes even more so fast. In the forest it goes in many, many, sharp serpentine up to dilapidated Plattenalm where I allowed myself my first rest. Then immediately steeply along the ridge above the Seiergrabens towards Ochsenkaralm till we reach The beautiful ridge that connects Stanser Joch and Ochsenkopf where we can have phenomenal views to Karwendel, Achensee, Guffert, Rofans and Zillertal.

From here we start our way down to Achensee. We have a break with food and drinks at Weißenbachalm. From here we have not much way left anymore to our final destination, the beautiful fiord lake Achensee where we can chill for a couple of hours in the sun before heading back to Munich ;)
The total hike lenght would be about 17 km (1600 m altitude gain). Estimated hiking time 7-8 hours.
