Description

The weather north of the Alps is looking gray, but Ticino is tempting us with a rather sunny weather forecast.

So, let's give in to temptation and venture south!

Meeting point and time: 9:45 Cassarate, Monte Brè

Getting there
  • By public transport:  Bus station at start point: Cassarate, Monte Brè (Train 7:33 from Zurich HB, it looks like the train does go through the tunnel on Saturday, so an hour shorter!)
  • By car: Navigate using Google maps to Piazza Riscossa, Lugano. Or one of the other parking places nearby. It might be hard to find a parking spot, be on time. (Also, beware that there might be a traffic jam through the Gotthard tunnel!)
  • (If you don't want to get up early in the morning, and have hiked with me before, you're welcome to stay over in Uri at my place Friday night, breakfast included! Send me a message!)

Getting back

  • By public transport: Bus station at start point: Cassarate, Monte Brè (Please note that the train on the way back goes the panoramic route, so it takes 3 hours to get back instead of 2. I'll go back by car to Uri, so I can drop people off in Altdorf UR on the way back.)

What to take: hiking shoes, warm enough clothes (layers), food, drinks, sunscreen, sunglasses, a good mood!

Bring lunch! No Restaurant at the top.

Pace: Moderate pace. ~400 elevation per hour, spending ~3 hours going up. Then have lunch at ~13:30 at the top (probably a snack break on Monte Bré). I expect the hike to end around sunset ~17:30.

If people are interested, we can get something to eat in Lugano before going back.

Grade: T2 on top. Bring hiking poles. Monte Boglia should not have snow anymore.

(There is a funicular if you'd like to participate but don't want to walk all the way down or up.)
