Description

Hi Hiking Buddies!

Let's go to Wildspitz on Sunday. Going up from Sattel, and descending towards Zug lake (town Walchwil).

According to the webcam, there is snow on Wildspitz right now (Thursday, 22.02.2024), but not deep, and the trail is partially snow-free on top. It is expected to snow tomorrow morning, so the depth will increase, but I expect it to still be walkable. Snow spikes are recommended.

See live webcam: https://wildspitz.roundshot.com/#/ and snow depth predictions: https://whiterisk.ch/en/conditions/snow-maps/  to make your own judgement.

Difficulty: T3, with snow on the upper parts.

Pace: ~350-400 uphill meters per hour. We should reach Wildspitz by around 1pm, and be down before 5pm.

Meeting point: Zürich HB, under the blue angel statue at 08:10.

Outward journey: 08:27 from Zürich HB to Sattel, Krone via Biberbrugg. Arrival at 09:26.

Return journey: From Walchwil to Zürich HB via Zug every 30 minutes (at xx:07 and xx:38).

Lunch: We bring our own food and have lunch near the top.

Recommended gear: Hiking shoes/boots; Waterproof jacket just in case it rains; Warm clothes (it will be around 2-3 degrees on the top); Sunscreen; Optionally - spikes for the snow.

Hi all, there is snow on the trail (starts at around 1200m above see level). Not deep (about ankle-deep), but slippery! Therefore it would be a very good idea to take snow spikes with you. Please be aware of the risks and decide whether you would like to join accordingly.

Hi all, I see the comments regarding the slippery path. Would snow shoes be good alternative for snow spikes?
