The Megamarsch is an annual hiking event that takes place in over 20 German cities in which participants attempt a pre specified route ranging in distance between 50 to 100 km in 24 hours. In Munich, the route covers 100 km from the city to Mittenwald on the Austrian border. The Munich Megamarsch is entering its seventh round! For the most part it goes along the Way of St. James Isar-Loisach-Leutascher Ache-Inn. Passing rivers, lakes, monasteries and beautiful nature. There will be a food station every 20km along the route, in addition to huts and bathrooms. You'll be awarded a certificate and a medal upon completion.
Notes
Some train stations along the route
The route is hard due to decent altitude gain at around the 70 km mark. The average completion rate is relatively low due to many people not preparing their gear such as trail runner shoes, light backpack, no poles etc. thus leaving the track due to blisters. Preparation with 30+ km walks is recommended as well as good trail running shoes. it is not mandatory to finish the distance with possibility to leave at checkpoints. The route during Megamarsch is not intended as a running event, rather walking.
