Description

Note this is a two day event, where we will stay at the Peter-Wiechenthaler-Hütte from Saturday, 18.05. till Sunday 19.05.

Ever wondered what it is like to enjoy the mountains at sunset or sunrise? I like the overwhelming feeling and it can be quite nice evenings, enjoying the view or to be in a hut with the other hikers, some drinks, talks and games :-)

I already booked 4 places. The price for adults is 24,- EUR per night/person, which includes the open sleeping place. A small three course dinner and a breakfast should be included according to this price list via 36,- EUR/person. Other meals are available as well.

Refreshments, Restaurant, Hut

We will get the chance to have dinner and breakfast at the Hütte.
You can have also a look at the menu, but please see the description at the top.

How to get there
By car - Ulm/Augsburg/Munich are possible
I am driving with my car and can take 3 more people.

Meeting point
Excat time and meeting point we can decide shortly before.

Hike

I created the event with the stay at the hut in mind. We can agree on the exact route together, before we start, since there are different possibilities.

- On the second day we can extend and start with a small round trip.
- On our way down on the second day we can either go directly to Steinalm which will be a challenging section.
or do a more easy section back in the direction to Bachwinkl and then divert to Steinalm.
Please have also a look at the pictures, there are some ladders and difficult sections.

From elevation perspective the hike shouldn't be too difficult since it is split in two days and we will probably have a lot time to chill out at the hut.

We can decide together if we e.g. want to start early at Sunday and extend the tour.

Stay at hut

Equipment

  • Sufficient drinks (water) and snacks to reach the hut.
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather. A jacket to be outside even in the evening would be good.
  • Hiking equipment, appropriate footwear for mountain tours:
I want to highlight this point. Due to the waterfall-part it will probably be slippery, so good shoes are necessary. There are also some T3 parts with a lot of gravel.
  • Special sleeping bags necessary for huts. Example in link.
For 15,-EUR a sleeping bag can be rented.
  • Personal hygiene equipment, e.g. showering equipment - shower is available at hut. (e.g. small and lighweight outdoor towel), toothbrush, etc. - keep in mind to just bring the bare necessities since you have to carry everything aroung :-)
  • Additional set of clothes for sleeping and maybe some kind of slippers to have shoes during the stay in the hut to avoid cold feet or to be able to roam around the hut.
  • Second set of clothes for second day.
  • If you have hiking poles, bring them. When we go downhill this will also prevent you from slipping.
  • Sun cream - let's hope we need it!
  • ID or whatever you have since we will hop over the border to Austria.
  • Money (cash would work for sure) to be able to pay the restaurant and the sleeping place.
  • Good mood :-)

When will we be back?
Sunday, 19.05., by afternoon.

Weather and track
Updated on 16.05.2024
Saturday, 18.05. will begin with a few patches of fog in the inner Alpine valleys, otherwise it will often be sunny. During the day, spring clouds will often be present in the mountains and local rain showers are possible in the northern Alps in the afternoon. The wind will be mostly weak to moderate from east to south. Lows: 4 to 10 degrees, highs: 17 to 23 degrees.

Sunday, 19.05.: still a very difficult forecast on Whit Sunday. From today's perspective, the tendency for showers and thunderstorms will increase in the late afternoon and evening. Before that, it will be quite sunny again. Early temperatures: 5 to 11 degrees, highs: 19 to 24 degrees.

Disclaimer
Participants take part at their own risk. It is necessary for each participant to honestly question their own fitness level, including any personal limitations, before agreeing to participate. During the hike, participants are required to be mindful of themselves and take care of others in the group. We adapt the speed to the group :-) Those who leave the group without notification are responsible for their own actions. We do not leave any garbage behind and of course help each other where possible. I am not responsible for any accidents or injuries that may occur during the journey or hike. We also have to comply with the rules of the hut to not disturb other guests.
