Hochvogel is the most prominent peak of the east Allgäuer Alps and is often called its "Matterhorn". Route: This is the stress-free south route from Hinterhornbach, Austria. Unlike the north route from Allgäu we are independent of a bus schedule or bikes. As the traditional Bäumenheimer Höhenweg is permanently closed, we will continue at Mutsattel northward to Fuchsensattel. On the north side we follow Fuchskar to Kalten Winkel where spikes are useful in the snow. After some scrambling we will reach the peak. On the descent we will pass by Kreuzspitze and follow the same route back to the starting point. 

Technical Difficulty: This hike is NOT suitable for beginners. It involves some easy scrambling (UIAA I). You have to be absolutely surefooted and no fear of heights. You should have above average pace (>450m gain/hour) and stamina. 

Preliminary schedule: We'll start in Munich at around 7:15. Don't make plans for the evening. We might have dinner in Hinterhornbach.

Transport: We will go by car as the starting point is not easily accessible by public transport. The driver(s) may require passengers to pay in advance. Please read the car instructions carefully. If the hike or lift is cancelled or postponed, the drivers must reimburse the prepaid payments. Otherwise a passenger dropping out before departure must only be reimbursed if the driver can find a replacement. Car drivers must contact me first if they drop out. I have reserved a rental minibus for 9persons. It requires payment in advance until Thursday evening (see car instructions). First paid, first served. If there is an insufficient number of payments, I'll only give the first four a lift with my car.

Joining: Click on carpool. If a car has free seats, read the instructions and possibly join the car. Otherwise add yourself to the waiting list and regularly check for free seats. You are not automatically assigned to a car. If a car is deleted, you must add yourself to the waiting list again.
