The train RB55 to Bayrischzell departs at 7:30 at München Hbf platform 33.
Use your own Deutschlandticket or check MVV for options.
This hike is not suitable for absolute beginners as having some surefootedness is a must. There are a few somewhat exposed sections and possibly a bit of scrambling but everything really challenging can be skipped or circumvented. You should be able to keep a minimum pace of 350 m of gain per hour.
Let’s enjoy together one of the most beautiful and diverse hikes in the Bayrischzell area! We start from Geitau and hike over to Birkenstein where we have a quick peek inside lush Birkenstein chapel. From there we follow the stream up to Breitensteinfensterl and Breitenstein’s two peaks. After that we can put in a quick refreshment stop at Hubertushütte. From there on we cover several minor peaks before hiking down to Osterhofen.
The plan is to take the 4pm train back to Munich.
Half of the hike is through shadowy woods, the other half is exposed to the sun.
